Moved from SOLO to DUO, trying to understand DSP

Hi,
So I have been using an Apollo Twin Solo for years, I practically know all chain combinations by now, lol!! And now that I upgraded to DUO, I was expecting twice the power. But apparently, it's not that easy, as there is literally 1 extra core available, not 2 working as 1 bigger as I thought. I noticed this last night, that even when my DSP was at 56%, I could not add some plugins. So I read about DSP pairing. And about AUX not working with this.
I decided to try one chain on channel 1. I dropped a couple of heavy hitters, like Fender Tweed in Unison, then OWS. This landed me on 56% Then when I added SSL E, it said NOPE! I tried with pairing, but still would not let me. See screenshot.

Then I disabled OWS, added SSL and then tried to see what I could add. ATR and SVTR landed me on 79%

I am just double-checking if I am missing something here? I think I understand, that one core has to fit the plugin(s), but it seems like a puzzle then, trying to figure out what will work and what won't work. And the pairing I thought made sense, but I am confused. At first I thought it was because I had crap on AUX, and that this was the issue.

It feels like I am still using the Solo, but with 50% DPS left on the meter... :/

Thanks in advance! :)

Do you know about individual DSP use from each plugin?

Fender Tweed takes 69.9%, Ocean Way 38.0%, ATR 17.6%, Ampeg SVTVR 27.8%, SSL E 41.8%. And the Apollo uses a little bit for overhead, so you can't use 100% of both cores.

I suggest that you reduce your plugin count and/or use lower-DSP plugins.

What I do: When I use a UAD-2 amp plugin, I keep it simple by using the presets and settings on the Tweed, a preamp/channel strip (usually Neve 88RS or Helios) and a lower-DSP reverb (Pure Plate). But I always play through a UAFX amp pedal these days, so I have a lot more DSP room. Still, I usually only put a preamp/channel strip in Unison and use a reverb and maybe a delay or something, as inserts for monitoring only. If I want to record clean electric into Apollo, I will use one of the SVTVR bass amps which I can use to dial in a nice clean sound quickly. But that's me. I would guess every guitar player on this forum does some things different.

I used Fender Tweed as well. Please try Precision Reflection Engine in place of OWS. Precisions Reflection Engine matches beautiful with Fende

UAD DSP & Latency 96kHz, 48kHz, and 44.1kHz - Google Sheets
even better, with selectable sample rate ;)
Precision Reflection Engine is a constant for me when I record guitar amp plugins. Same for the Pre Delay Mod. Just a touch of each makes it sound and feel like it’s in a room.
I print it all.

Yes, and if _monday chooses not to print with those, those are great on Aux as well for monitoring, to replace with Ocean Way in DAW afterwards, and render there.

For channel strips, you can also turn off LoadLock in your settings. This will make it so only the portions of the plugin in use use up the DSP.
