Can I use a 2nd card of a friend to get more DSP power for a mixing session, or are there registration problems? (I don't want his plugins, I just need more DSP power)

Your friend would need to contact UA and have them transfer the hardware authorization for that card from his system to yours.. The cards as well as the plugs that go with them are authorized per individual computer system..
