..is the Friedman IR-X . I've been playing mine every day for a month or so and it is definitely staying on my desk. For those unfamiliar, it's a high-voltage tube preamp, with digital poweramp and speaker simulation. The output seems to work fine whether I connect it to Hi-Z, Mic or Line inputs of Apollo (Dave Friedman says it's meant to connect to a mic preamp).

I've never had more satisfying tone and feel going straight into my interface as this. I guess since its a Friedman it's more of a "Marshall" sound than other types of amps, but it essentially has 4 channels (2 channels each with a boost) with different levels of gain, and the Impulse Responses can be swapped out, so you can cover a tone of tonal ground.

Downsides IMO are: No digital output (SPDIF would be rad) , FX loop is mono and goes through ADC, and there is no Room or Reverb sound, so while it has a headphone amp is sounds very dry.

As far as getting tone from your guitar into the computer - I love this thing.

is the Tonex - I‘ve been playing it for a few days and they’ve managed to get something …. actually pretty much everything very right on this pedal and the handshake between software and hardware is immediate.
As a complete rig in a box it’s the most impressive unit I’ve ever used and what it’s doing with the decay of sustained chords is just ….. well … a lot nicer than most of the emulations I’ve played through … you can feel the underlying power of the amps simmering and shimmering with pent up power and energy - they nailed it - and with slots for 150 rig setups on board inspiration is in there and you won’t have a hard time locating it.

I must be the only person in the world that just hated Tonex (the plug). I preordered it and everything, from the sound, to the interface, to the nag screen to "buy" the add on's when Max already had them included. I couldn't sell it fast enough (though I had to wait 3 months). Buggy, unintuitive, and uninspiring. I realize that I'm in the complete minority, but I didn't like it one bit.

But I'm guessing that the hardware is different.

Funny you should mention it because that is the one other piece of kit I've been playing with (both the Tonex pedal and the plugin).

I like it quite a bit, I bought some of the 'ToneJunkie" profiles on a deep discount (think I spent $15 for a good handful). It does not disappear into the background the way the IR-X does though. I feel like I'm playing a real amp on a real record when I'm using the IR-X.

I really wish the Tonex had a few delays and modulation effects on it. Now the new Kemper "player" thing came out, I'm thinking about trying that because it can run 4 effects.

I really wish all these guitar amp-in-box had SPDIF or ADAT outputs for connecting *digitally* to Apollos or other interfaces. I know this doesn't bother most people but I am allergic to extra rounds of A/D and D/A conversion.

I just change the DAW or OSX Sound In preferences to the Tonex (connected via USB) and let it take care of the AD conversion and UAD simply takes care of the Playback DA as usual. No drama, minimum fuss.

My Fractal Axe Fx III Mk. II Turbo modeler is the greatest piece of guitar related hardware I have ever purchased.

i jammed for 2 hours tonight in the studio with my UAFX Amp pedal board via LUNA and couldn’t be happier with the tones.
It’s a sonic feast! 🤘

I did this to in REAPER using an aggregate device in OSX and it works fine, but considering the latency characteristics of the Apollo are much better and not capped at 44.1 like the Tonex hardware, I found it way easier to just use the Tonex plugin.

This!

My favorite guitar related product in recent history? These UAFX pedals (although I don't own a Woodrow at this second.) I can't envision a situation in which I would use any other guitar amp sims, although I have plenty.

In other news, I like running my clean guitar through Chase Bliss Habit and/or Mood MkII.

Oh I forgot about saying what I like :ROFLMAO: Can we include a bass guitar? My Ibanez Prestige 5005 bass. I've owned six billion basses (most of them excellent) and it's the most comfortable bass of them all. It sounds great and sits in a mix really well. It's really versatile, but mostly I just use it in passive mode and let a sim do the heavy lifting.

If it's guitar related, it would have to be the Mixwave Benson Chimera plug. It always works. I have many others that I use, but it's go-to (though this Neural Morgan is starting to win me over while I demo it)

I was playing this beast last night - 1967 Fender Custom Shop Tele (based off the design they sent to George Harrison). We know the Beatles loved their Casinos too
