My Uad-1 interrupts with Motu 896HD...

Hi there!
I bought a UAD-1 Studio card for a couple of weeks ago.
I also use a Motu 896hd firewire soundcard and here the problems start.

Because when I load one of the UAD-1 plugs in Cubase SX3, the Motu screams out a high frequency sound, and the sound disappears for some seconds, and comes back again. And after 3 sec's the \"piiip\" starts again.

Why I believe it's the Motu that somehow interrupts with the Uad-1? - Because when I switches to on of the Standard ASIO multimedia drives, the problem goes away, and the UAD plugs works perfectly.

I read almost every post in the forum but didn't find the answer I was looking for.

What do I do? I've updated to the very last drives on both the Motu and the UAD-1. I've tried to connect the Motu to the internal firewire port and on a external PCI-firewire card. Same problem.

I've also tried to put the UAD-1 in every of the 3 free PCI slots... same problem.

My system:
Asus A8N SLI Deluxe w/ nForce4
AMD X2 4400+ CPU
Asus Radeon X1300 PCI-E graphics card
2 gigs RAM
400w powersupply
300gb Seagate SATA2 disc
Cubase Sx 3.1.1.944
Motu 896HD
UAD-1 Studio card

I would be very pleased if someone out there could help me with this one!

Toffa,

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

Not sure if it's related, but if you haven't checked already, there are often posts in the Unicornation forum about brief, unexplainable noise bursts. IIRC, they're usually from MOTU firewire users, but I don't keep up with it enough to know right off what the problem or solution is. If it was fine before the UAD came in, it may be a different issue though. I think the usual reports in the MOTU forum don't involve UAD's (or maybe even desktop/PCI machines).

I do seem to remember some issues with mixing/exports under the dedicated ASIO driver in Nuendo, where people were recommending to switch over to the generic, for everything but the low latency (tracking) stuff. I think that was a \"general\" UAD issue, not just MOTU, and it may be gone now anyway. I also think it was a different form of noise glitch than what you describe (maybe just the exports), but it was still a \"generic vs. dedicated\" ASIO thing.

Hopefully, someone here's got a better memory than me and can recall some better details on that one.

Good luck on it!

George

PS- Funny, some guy in an 828 post there, was describing his noise glitches as \"peeps\" the other day.

MOTU devices are picky when it comes to firewire cards. I tried 3 cards before i found the right one. and its the card MOTU uses for thier PC's the BELKIN F5U501, F5U503, F5U503v they have the texas instruments chipset.

NEC and adaptec cards did not work.
