What a difficult question...
I use 1073 much more than 1081 but actually I can't live without 1081 already.

Those are having different color and different freq point,
also different curve of the filter.

I recommend you'll get both. 8)

well, i know both are good but i have $$$ only for one, so you say that thay have diff filter curves and diff \"color\"?

for what mainly do you use them on ?

The 1073 is a great sounding EQ and has a definite fingerprint. It does not however have the flexibility of the 1081 in terms frequency control.
If you need an EQ to enhance an already well recorded track then IMO the 1073 is the hands down winner.
If you have a track that needs to be carved/modified away from it's original sound then I find the 1081 far more useful.
Both are great, try the demos.

I use 1073 mainly for Drum and Bass tracks.
And I use 1081 for long sustain sound such as synth-pad and strings.

Of course, 1073 can handle for synth-pad too.

yep, i wanted the 1073 from the start, so i guass i'll go for 1073 since i have many eq's to play with and i'm sure it will be lighter then 1081 on the uad cpu

Thanks

Well not so much. The SE version for both are near if not equal, and full 1081 version needs just a little more then 1073.
But since your eq arsenal, you will enjoy the 1073 since it sounds so good!

I just redid a mix I was previously fighting almost entirely with the 1081.

It was a very cluttered mix, so the 1081 seemed to remain pretty clean while giving it a nice sheen. Definitely my new \"Can't live without\" EQ.

Why doenst the UAD 1073 have a HPF AND a LPF like the URS N series EQ? This one thing keeps me from using it....ever. Is it supposed to have this feature? Therefore 1081 SE wins for simple filtering, and 1081 for frequency boosting.

The reason the UA 1073 doesn't have high and lo pass filters is because the hardware 1073 doesn't have high and lo pass filters. The URS is actually a model of the 1084, which is basically a souped up 1073 (with the hi pass filter, low pass filter, and the hi-Q mod on the mid range).

This is what i absolutely LOVE about the 1081. It can go on somewhat cleanly but still there's a nice sheen and smoothness there.
