New console emulations?

I'm actually pretty surprised another console emulation hasn't come out.
I thought that UA was hinting at Neve and SSL in the future, even when the API first came out...

It's UA's nature not to comment on any future release plans so... doubt that we'll see any sort of answer here unfortunately.

A couple of notable things have happened since LUNA came out:

1. Neve entered the audio recording interface market and are probably developing plugins.

2. SSL has continued developing their 360 platform and bought Harrison mixbus DAW.

I think we’re more likely to see SSL build their own DAW than to license their name to UA.

This is why UA just needs to move on from the SSL and Neve thing, as much as those are requested console emulations. Either release a non-badged version of the SSL or Neve, with a wink and a nod, or just emulate other consoles like Flickinger, Quad 8, Helios, Auditronics, RCA, etc., etc., etc. There are a lot of great, interesting options out there. The Neve and SSL thing is overdone anyway.

These are all good insights and theories. If in fact there would only be one console emulation (api), it doesn’t really make sense to waste all that gui real estate on one console. I wonder if we’ll see layout changes in Luna because today, clearly it’s pointing to various console emulations

Quad 8 or Helios please!

I would love other consoles. But I thought the likelihood of ssl/neve was higher because those relationships seem to already exist.

Yeah just rewatched the API launch office ours again as I've just purchased the API console and there was a lot of nudge, nudge, wink, wink going on RE other consoles!!

(Really loving the API though.. it - sound, work flow, just amazing).

They should release a UA console based on the 610. But first we need a summing extension.
I believe most analogue consoles use a 20 db amplifier to combine (sum) the appropriate channels (that have been stepped down -20 db).
The first stage of a mic pre is typically 20db, and mic pres have been used by tricky individuals to give alternate summing on old consoles.
Who better than UA to make it work in the summing position (if not having schematics or original summing amps laying about).
If UA never adds another console, I find this approach (API) way better than plug-ins for every little thing.

But I don’t believe for a minute that there are not more consoles coming. And already Luna users can build custom consoles. Change the mic pre or summing. More please

Think about the way the API integration is handled. Arming a track instantiates a unison API Preamp and a separate API Vision instance in Console's insert slot (I thought this used to be monitor only, but at least currently it is in rec mode also). Taken out of arm mode, these DSP plug-ins are removed from Console, and Luna reverts to native code. Summing is native, and so's the 2500.

Neve is probably the closest in terms of existing pieces (that we use today). Preamp, but not a native version. Summing, but no native bus compressors. 1073 maybe for the console, with separate pre? Maybe. 88RS? still need native port and separate preamp in DSP (UA hasn't released any new DSP plug-ins for awhile now.)

SSL? No pre. Nothing native. No summing.

Helios? I'd LOVE a Helios console! But nothing native, no dynamics at all, and no summing.

I like the idea of other consoles, especially a 610 (which seems like a no brainer) but if I'm at UA...
I'm doing the ones that will sell best, first... and without a doubt, that's Neve and SSL.

They don't actually need the licensing to release (see "Galaxy Space Echo) but also agree, the licensing will help and would certainly be nice to have.

Another thing that I just noticed was that LUNA is now referred to as a DAW. Anybody know when that changed? UAD was adamant for the longest time that it was NOT a DAW but a “recording system.” Even look at the name of this forum.

I wonder if the name change has any bearing into the discussion here about the future of console emulations.

The lack of other consoles is a bit confusing since a lot of Luna is based around the analog style workflow. I suppose with the 4 available DSP slots per track when recording you can somewhat build your own although it is not the same.

Anything, but please no more SSL emulation.
The thought alone makes me tired. There is so much of it out there, including some good ones.

If it can't be a Quad, then at least 610 or Helios.
