New Mac Studio....no UA.

Just picked up a new Mac Studio with Sonoma 14.0.
Did a card upgrade from TB2 to TB3 in my Apollo 8P.
Did a migration to get all my apps/settings etc over from old computer.
Pro Tools wouldn't work...iLok not seeing it. So...bought the latest Pro Tools.

But....the computer (and Pro Tools) doesn't see the Apollo 8P.....not there in Sound settings/Preferences. Ok so I find out I need to upgrade my UA software to work with Sonoma. I do that.

Get this message about extensions being blocked and so started the brain damage.

I know I did not make it through the first Allow process in 30minutes. Watched the video at UA and tried again...... 8X at least.

I never did see it ask me to Allow UA.

What gives?

Can't think of much worse than dropping $3500 on a new computer plus around another $500 on a UPS, Pro Tools, new SSD, TB cables etc.......and you cannot just enjoy the results.

Help will be appreciated. I opened a ticket #786318 but it's saying it might take a while to get back to me, due to the high volume of support requests.

Did you do the security setting thing that you need to change to install the Uad driver
Yes I did, sorry I thought I made that evident. I did that and followed all the instructions to the letter …..a few times.

But not before I ‘messed it up’ the first time.

I also uninstalled and reinstalled the UAD and the interface software.

Nothing worked. Bummed!

I think there are instructions for a “deep” uninstall but can’t find the link at the moment.

maybe another option you can try is creating another user account on the Mac and try installing there. I think the installation is systemwide so if you succeed there it should carryover to your main one

Did a migration
Not saying this is the problem, but it has been for me in the past.

If other solutions fail, I would start with a fresh OS install, manually copy data and reinstall applications. That has fixed my problems in the past.

ON THE OTHER HAND: If you DID NOT have UAD installed on the previous Mac, this is less likely to be an issue on the new one.

I hope I'm not wasting your time, but the way I got a similar situation solved was by creating a second user account on Mac, and setting UA everything on the second user (but available to all users).

I totally appreciate all the help from you folks I but wow…..fresh OS install? New user account? This seens so extreme to me. I don’t really get why it is so complicated.

I did go into recovery mode several times to go to Utilities and tell it to essentially allow the update install.

To be honest I’m a bit leery of doing an OS reinstall/recovery. The computer is brand spanking new…..

I feel like it should be a simpler solution. 😄Hopefully tech support will contact me soon.

..... it might be time to revisit the security changes in macOS Recovery.
Yes I've tried that a few times. I read somewhere about being locked out if you don't get that Recovery mode fix exactly right the first time. I think that might have happened to me because I couldn't find the Allow dialogue and tried again. And again, and again. This is my first time on Sonoma. I was using High Sierra before. Never a problem with UA. Although, I would have thought by now they would have the M2 processors/Silicon sorted. Thanks.

Yeah I did have UA installed and LUNA and all worked perfectly. It has to be related to this new Sonoma OS. I'm so bummed because I am desperate to get working but with no interface I cannot do a thing.......not even listen to iTunes.

Probably just semantics, just for clarity, the changes to settings in recovery mode are one thing. The "Allow UA Software" is another security choice that is made in the System Settings.

fresh OS install? New user account?
Over the years, I have often had problems with some applications when I migrated to a new Mac. After going through re-installs enough times, I just copy files over and perform fresh installs whenever I move to a newer one.

Thanks JohnR1. Supposedly there should have been the dialogue "System software from developer Universal Audio has been updated" with an Allow button. I never once saw that just like that. Thanks for your interest and help.

I was really hoping for it to be seamless. I've done so in the past but it was a while ago on an Intel based MacBook Pro Retina. Thank you.

Just to be clear - that's actually a fairly simple Apple problem with permissions... But I get your point. Setting up a second user takes just a few minutes, and it was really only the UA Software (main one) that I had to install on the second user.

Thanks. I know how to create a 2nd user but I'm unclear as to how/why I have to reinstall the software. Doesn't it just see it there in the UA app folder.

Another huge problem (massive) that I have is all my 3rd party plugs in's are missing.

Several Izotope products....RX, Ozone , Nectar, Neutron etc, Waves Bundles, EZ instruments, Spectrasonics, Soundtoys, Nomad Factory, Drumcore, Steven Slate etc etc. Gone..**POOF**!!

I'm being told at the Avid/Pro Tools forum that using Migration Assistant is the problem and that I need to start all over and reinstall everything manually. I won't mention how that makes me feel.

Yikes. That sounds like a lot of work. I'm going to keep watching your situation, because I'm getting a new Mac in January.

My advice would be…….start prepping. Any apps or plugins you want to continue to work with……start investigating now whether they have to be updated/upgraded.

Or if they are even compatible.

If you can…..grab the downloads between now and Jan and save them in a folder or on a drive, thumbdrive etc.

That way you can do a clean install and not use the migration tool.

Especially if you run Pro Tools. I’m now finding out using Migration Assistant going from an intel to silicon is a big no no.

This.

So many issues have happened to Apple users who use the MA. Better to just go from scratch, but since you did the MA, your next best thing you can do is a fresh OS install and then do a fresh install of everything.
