Apollo, meet Dante.

Perfect for live sound venues or networked recording studios, Apollo x16D gives you eliteclass Apollo X sound and realtime UAD plug-in processing over Thunderbolt and Dante.
With Apollo x16D, you can mix and record live performances with over 200 UAD plug-ins from Neve, SSL, and Auto-Tune, plus classic LA-2A and 1176 compressors, and more.

This is going to be a dumb question, but where are the inputs? Is this more of an effects processor for dante systems than an I/O?

Finally!

Nice. I had a Dante equipped mixer decade ago and this would have paired with that wonderfully. Much smaller studio space now, so no longer target customer. But long time Dante fanboy :)

If it can still use the classic Dante app on the Mac/PC via inbound Ethernet cable, this will be ideal for "next room" and live placements where a 100 ft Thunderbolt cable not practical. Sweet.

Isn’t 16 channels a bit low vs what Dante / other interfaces are capable of in the same price range? I confess to knowing next to nothing about Dante so maybe that’s a stupid question!

Dante can handle a lot of channels, but you're still limited to the number of DA/AD converters on the Apollo itself I would suspect. The idea is you can run 100 ft ethernet cable from a mixer to the Apollo without having to use traditional snake with XLR cables to DB25 connectors. All the inputs happen at mixer or Dante start point, and this is endpoint bringing the audio into the DAW. So, in theory. if you had two of these and two Dante ports on a mixer, you could bring in 32 channels over two CAT6/7 cables. This is just broad strokes, and not technical specs -- based on how we used it years ago with Yamaha mixer setup and cheesegrater Mac with two ethernet ports.

I thought Dante worked over IP meaning only one cable would be enough to do what you are describing?

I have a look of the block diagram in the manual :
- 6 SHARCS <-> 6 DRAM
- ARM processor
A mixed of old and new ?

thanks for your answer , Drew
You mean this ARM processor is already present in the Apollo X line ?
or that it is only in charge with the DANTE thing ?
