Newb Apollo 8x outboard effects send question

Hello. Pardon my ignorance, but I have been losing my mind trying to figure out how to use my army of effects pedals as an effects send for prerecorded tracks.

I have a Radial Reamp EXTC which allows me (supposedly) to use pedals with line levels as an effects send for recordings. But for the life of me I can't figure out how to get this working in Luna or Logic, I know this is simple stuff and the mystery lies somewhere in Console. But I am at a total loss so far.

Can anyone walk me through the steps? Ive reached out to UA, but crickets....

This isn’t implemented in Luna as of right now. In logic it’s really simple. Logic has its own plugin, I believe in the utility drop down called like external I/o or something like that. You load that up and select the appropriate output and subsequent input your external gear is routed through. You can search this on YouTube and get probably a dozen step by step walkthroughs. When assigning outs keep in mind that I think the main monitor outs are 1/2, and that the outputs that are physically labeled as 1/2 on the hardware show up as 3/4 in the driver.

Also, this website is generally going to get you assistance faster than a support ticket. Also worth noting, IME, when asking for help with Luna about something it doesn’t do, you will generally just get radio silence. Like people are afraid to chime in to say “ah yeah that doesn’t do that”. Luna has many cool tricks up its sleeve but there’s a lot of typical daw things that it doesn’t do as of right now. For me it’s sitting in the parking lot as of right now for the most part.

FYI, making multiple tickets slow things down.

I'll poke Support for you.
hey all - any progress on this? i am similarly going out of my mind - every day & with no progress - trying to use pedals (both of the modern variety (hologram microcosm etc) that shouldn't need re-amp & older ones (vintage electro-harmonix etc) that should) as mixing tools.

have everything lovingly wired in to my patchbay just for this purpose and my apollo x6 seems hell-bent on denying me. maybe it's a pro tools thing but can't find how on earth to accomplish what should be a pretty manageable task...

I got it working! At least in Luna.

There is a lot of misinformation/confusing stuff out there. Some even from UA.

My setup is basically having multiple patchbays connected to every instrument/synth/drum machine/etc. Then I have a separate patchbay for outboard hardware (pres/compressors/etc). Then yet another patchbay for Ins/Outs on the Apollo x8.

I believe most confusion arises via UA Console. As I’m sure you have already experienced, a lot can go wrong between your preferred DAW (Logic for me) and Console, which can be completely unrelated to what you think you have going on in your DAW. Almost seems like a conspiracy to steer people towards Luna as their DAW.

My advice is to try and keep it as simple as you think it should be. What finally worked for me was to forego all the Sends/Aux etc. that you think should be the easy fix (and is the most recommended solution by UA), and just keep it simple and send the Outs from prerecorded tracks to the Ins of your pedal interface, then Outs from the pedals into the In of a new recorded track (with the new effects recorded on it).

So in order to do that, you just need to route the Outs (left side of Console) for whatever track you want effects on to a Mono Out (far right side of Console).

To be perfectly honest, my understanding of what was causing my issues is still confusing to me. I believe I may have finally reset my Apollo x8 via the “Hardware” preferences to work seamlessly with Console, and once I did that, everything started working the way I always thought it should.

The good news is it CAN be done. The bad news is if stuff isn’t set up right it can be maddening trying to figure it out. I was contemplating selling my Apollo I was so turned off by how confusing it was.

Good luck!
