Newbie question about Plugs, and 2nd card

So, I was thinking about buying a second card but now I am seeing that people are having problems with the way they load. Is it that people have too many plugins loading, or when you use the neve compressor it loads up one card blocking the other card from loading. Please elaborate, also is a second card recommended or does it create more problems?

Thanks in advance....

Hello _

No, a second card created not more problems but on the contrary distributes and extens the possibilities of opening more authorities of plug-in UAD only.
Don't be quiet, I am also a newbie

It's that the Neve 33609 full version takes about 66% of one card, so that if you have a bunch of other stuff loaded (say 40% of two cards), you have more than enough total cpu power to use the 33609, but not on any one card, due to load distribution. There are manual workarounds sometimes, but in some situations they aren't practical.

Basically this all boils down to the 33609 causing people to hit the ceiling of their UAD-1 processor power. It might make a difference in how you have to use your 33609 if you purchase it, but it otherwise is not a problem or defect of the UAD-1, and nothing has changed to make it less of a value proposition than it ever was.

Two cards will definitely allow you to do much more, especially if you're doing mixing, but even for mastering I find it's pretty indispensible for some projects to exceed the capability of a single card (especially with some of the new plug-ins).
