OK I updated to ver 4.4 and opened a track I was working on earlier this week under 4.3. All the sudden the group tracks I had been using the 1176LN dropped in the mix to like half their volume. It appears the 1176LN is doing more gain reduciton than before. So I went back to ver 4.3 and have spent the last hour trying to figure out if I'm just nuts!
I was working for awhile, things were rockin, and I was feelin good. Then all the sudden the mix turned to shit as if out of nowhere! Sounded just like when I went to ver 4.4. HERE is where it gets interesting. If I opened an older version of the project, and then opened my current project, the levels would come back up again on one of the group tracks, the other still had a problem. The last thing I noticed is my system temp (not CPU) was getting hot, I cranked the fans to get it back to normal, but didn't seem to change things. Before when things were \"Sounding great\" the machine was starting to stutter for no apparant reason. I can only imagine it was the high temp messin with the NB/SB. Perhaps it's possible the higher temp messed with the processing causing things to sound different? Must have been all the tube warmth in the UAD-1! When I cooled things down and backed down on the pre-roll the stutering stopped.
Here is where it gets interesting AGAIN! I disable the UAD-1 plugs, and all the sudden my tracks go out of sync. This is new and never happened before. SO for giggles I turned off delay compensation, and all the sudden my rockin mix was there! NOw Mind you, the UAD Meter still shows as \"Disabled\" but the plugins are RUNNING if you check information. I turn Delay compensation back on and the mix poofs out again. NO my orignal \"rockin mix\" did not have the plugs disabled. Turned the pre-roll back to like before, also didn't change anything(Not that I thought it would).
So back to 4.4 and it seems to be the same as where I left off. I didn't do all the same tests, as I'm kinda exhausted. Did the delay compensation test and it's the same as before, all messed up if you disable the plugs. I wonder if the PCI and PCI-E cards are on different timings and this is why it just doesn't work? I don't know. However this time the plugs seem to actually turn off and on in a more consisent manner. Before you ask, yes did reboots at all ver changes.
So for tonight, I give up. I've lost all confidence in what I'm doing because I can't tell if it's gonna stick later or not and my ears are shot from trying to discern what \"I Did\" and what I \"Thought I did\". This stuff kinda makes me worry about instant recall later. I mean was the 1176LN even tweaked since 4.2? What was changed/\"optimized\" etc...? Am I just imagining this?
I need to come back rested with a clear head.
Hopefully I'm just nuts...
