I like the Shure Beta 87 and use it as soon as available for softer acts. Just used it on two gigs this weekend. At first I had a Shure SM58 but got hold of a Beta 87. The difference in clarity was just amazing. Try a Beta 87 and see if you like it.

I had a Shure Beta 85, but switched to an Audio-Technica and found it much fuller and smoother. Big sound, no feedback. The one I use has a 4030 1\" diameter capsule, not sure of the model.

I'll attest even though I am not an AT fan in live situations the AT sounds great on Matts Voice....

....However with Floetry, I use a Beta 87 on Natalies voice (the floacist) because her voice is so dark an SM-58, Beta 58 and Sennheiser sound to dark and muffled on her vocal and she is not a mad power flologist to distort the capsule.

Now Marsha (The songstress) on the other hand...Using a Beta 58 she crushed the diaphragm, using that New Shure K9 condensor, she crushed the Diaphragm, the SM-58 handles her power well, but the Beta 87 was left laying by the side of the road...

The K9 under a softer singer sounds great, The Beta 87A is cool, but again if you are a power singer it will get crushed. the neumann (same situation) as most studio condensors are not worked right up to your mouth generally at least 3\" distance.

So as the 1st repsponder said try em out in different situations and see which one you like.

Have you tried the Audix mics? They're supposed to excel at staying clean on power singers.

btw, that's great to hear you work with Floetry. Beautiful stuff!

If I didnt hate the sound of audix mikes so much I might have considered them. Next show we do I am demoing the Sennhesier 835/935 series to see how they hold up and what tone I get....If they dont die under Marshas Power I will be demanding..ok maybe just begging for my endorsement. LOL
