Original MIDI only Mackie Control Universal

Because I don’t really want to spend lots on a control surface, I bought a Behringer X-touch one… primarily for the transport and jog wheel… and I have to say, I’m really enjoying having the fader. The mouse only gets touched when it needs to.

At some point, probably if/when UA collaborate/create their own product, I’ll get something a bit nicer, but I was looking at the price of the 8 fader Behringer unit, and although it’s cheap… you can get a used Mackie Control on eBay for less. Now… try not to laugh… I prefer the look of the older unit which was MIDI only 🤣 so I wondered whether that would still work… obviously hooked up via an interface. Any clues ladies and gents?

Classic Mackie PRO - make sure you get one with ALPS faders, not early one with 'string' is awesome. Used for many yeas with Logic and UAD plugins over here. Moved to the SSL stuff now, but still can recommend the later version of the MCU. I sold my Mackie units last year. Built like freakin tanks.

Thanks for replying! Yeah it seems like a no brainer getting the MCU for less than the Behringer unit. That’s not to cast shade on the Behringer, I have no issues using Behringer… especially if it’s not in the signal chain… and I really am impressed with the x touch one… but I’d rather a Mackie unit.
