shiiieeeet, just found out they have a native VST XP version and tried the demo myself. I love the PrecLim, but i NEED the Oxford as well. This Plug ROCKS! Incredible!

Forget the gear-lust - tell us the sonic differences when used as mastering tool? Check out the SOS reviews of similar tools.

the sony´s selling point is the attack control together with the enhance control. when you do not use enhance you have to use a short attack, as all the other brickwall limiters do as well. in this \"normal\" mode it sounds pretty much like the PrecLim. Then you have the Enhance section, which does pretty much what a Inflator does if you put it after the PrecLim and drive it into another 2-3dB of saturation. The signal gets louder and gets overtones, making the signals more alive. This is good if the signal benefits from the added harmonics, and not good if stuff is already too bright or piercing. On a good digital mix I prefer this Inflator sound on 80% of all mixes. sounds analog.

I have the PrecLim and the Inflator, so up to this point the Sony does nothing I could not do otherwise...

but here is the deal:
turn up the attack time of the sony and let those overshoots run into the enhance section - it takes away the overs but lets more of the attack through. the result sounds more \"open\", a little louder and less squashed. it´s an amazing combination. It only counts when you really really want those last 2-3dB that are not necessary but if you want to go as loud as possible while still sounding good, the sony with slow attack and enhance turned on simply wins over any other brickwall I have ever tested.
I would use it for agressive and in-your-face music styles. It´s not something you NEED when you want to sound smooth, the PrecLim is still one of the best limiters out there for that. It´s just the attack time control on the Sony that guves you another option, which other brickwalls simply do not have (cause they would need the saturation section afterwards that only the sony has)...

Cheers,
Pat
