Can't seem to make this work. Can someone please take the time to send me step-by-step instructions on how to setup the Apollo X8P to see the optical output of the 3800. The record destination is ProTools. Thanks so much in advance for any help offered.

Make sure you're set to S/PDIF on Apollo, not ADAT, for the optical input. For simplicity, I'd probably turn on SRC, too. That way you don't have to worry about sync.

From there, make sure your S/PDIF is visible in PT's I/O settings.

This may help:

Matt, thank you for your response. Just to be clear, I'm an audio professional with over 42 years in the chair. I have a number of different digital formats at work in our main control room.

I've got the Panasonic 3800 plugged into the Apollo X8p via an optical cable coming from the optical output of the 3800 into the optical input of the Apollo. All digital outputs of the 3800 are active at all times. There is nothing to set up on the 3800 side.

In the UA console, I have the hardware sample rate set to 44.1kHz, the clock source set to SPDIF, and the Digital Input set to SPDIF. At the bottom of the console window, the clock source indicates SPDIF and is flashing red. The Console I/O Matrix shows 9&10 as SPDIF inputs.
The UA Console software shows nothing coming in when I play the DAT.

In ProTools I've defaulted the I/O Setup and I see the SPDIF inputs listed as inputs 9&10.

This should be A LOT easier than this. There is no one to talk to at UA for even very rudimentary support. I'm appalled that after spending a fair amount of money on various hardware and software UA products, this company can't be bothered to offer even a paid support option.

Dang. Super disappointed.

If you're not seeing signal in Console, then something is awry. Try enabling SRC on the Apollo and let its clock stay internal. Seeing signal with SRC enabled? Is there any possibility the 3800 is outputting 32kHz, instead of 44.1 or 48? I don't believe Apollo can sync to 32 or 64kHz, though those are both very uncommon (especially the latter). I'm sure you've looked at the optical connection from the 3800 and see light emitting...

It should not be flashing. Try setting it to internal.

Feel free to PM and we can set up a Zoom to go over it. Indeed, this should be very easy.
