Performance meter accuracy...

I'm trying to identify why I get the occasional 'UAD-1 plugins have stopped responding' issue, and I've just noticed that the CPU load in the 'System Information' page on the performance meter is showing DOUBLE the amount that the Perf. Meter itself shows.

ie; whilst the Performace meter is showing 24% the Information page is showing 48%.

It looks as though the performance meter is only reading the average of my two cards (half actual!). Is this right?

:(

*edit* I loaded up the cards so one was showing 54% and the other 32% and the performance meter read 43%.

Weird?

The Performance Meter shows the average usage between the cards, so it's always a number between 0-100% (if you exceed 100% you're in trouble...). In the System Information page you see the total usage of the cards, so if you have, let's say, 2 cards, it'll be between 0-200%.

...I sort of see - but then the meter would never show above 50% usage maxed out (which is an average of 100% each for 2 cards).

That's probably where I've ended up overloading them; when the meter says 40% and you think you've got plenty spare to load up that Neve...

No. 100% for each card times 2 for 2 cards is 200%; divide it by 2 to get the average = 100%.

Yes, a percentage is just a ratio expressed within 100 units. So if you have 264% over 3 cards, the average would be 88%.

54+32=86 / 2 = 43

I think it would be really cool if UA would update the cpu meter to show the individual card usages as well as the overall average. Let's face it, with UA's lack of load-balancing features the average cpu usage is meaningless.
Nightowl,
great idea! I'm so much in agreement. I've got 3 UAD-1's in my rig. The meter seems virtually worthless.
