Pls Help! Mysterious connection loss between Apollo Quad Silverface FireWire and Mac Pro 5,1 OpenCore Legacy Patcher OSX 10.15.7

My problem: I suddenly lost connection with all my AUD Plugins but the Apollo still played back the DAWs and system sound.
It seems Apollo Quad and Octo PCIe card is no longer recognized but the system. I checked the Security & Privacy settings and the UA Mixer Engine, the UA CoreAudio Control Panel and Console are in place. Still no connection.
I de-installed the UAD Software and re-installed an earlier version (v10.2.5) just to make sure that my old interface and computer weren´t suddenly outdated by v11. I was waiting for the "allow access" dialogue box to appear but it never shows, no matter how many times I de-install/re-install.
I am seriously lost here! Catalina is supposed to support FireWire.

So you have loaded Cat on an older computer it is not apple certified for, used LP to do that snd now you hsve a connectivity problrm with older ua hardware ?

Under Apple System info can you still see the UAD hardware under both the FireWire and the PCI entries ?
What was your reason to upgrade beyond Mojave ?

Yes they both show up but the Octo card is not properly identified and says driver “not installed”.
I tried so many times re-installing power down power up check cables you know…

Reason for upgrade is mostly because all my programs (Logic,PT,Cubase etc) were starting to become unsupported and OCLP has thus far worked well with my old 5,1.

The problem seems to lie within the “security/privacy” page in system preferences, it never shows the “allow” dialogue box after reboot after reinstalling UAD software. So the hardware is not recognized though the Apollo actually plays back audio from the DAW’s but the UAD plugins are gone.

Do you know how to change security settings, like we did for a previous us software?
I’m not sure I did everything right. There are instructions on the UAD website for Catalina UAD install and I followed them to the point but the “allow” dialogue box never appears

Yes Sir,
That’s the website I referred to.

But no matter how many times I deinstall and reinstall regardless of version of IAD Software, the old “Connecting to Apollo” dialogue box that normally comes when booting up, will not show!

Also when I open a DAW document containing any UAD plugin it says “UAD plugin or UAD hardware not recognized”.

And as I recounted many times before:
The “allow” box in “security and privacy” after reboot doesn’t show.

Any ideas?

FWIW: I also have 2 FW Satellites and am currently on Mojave. I also would like to use 10.15.x so that I can see my UAD DSP-VST3s inside my Hofa Master DDP software. IF UAD 11.1 allows this to happen, of course :)

Things to check:
1. If your OCLP is spoofing an iMac Pro (instead of a 7,1 Mac Pro) then you can have PCIe slot issues
(as the iMac doesn't have them!)
2. OCLP stopped testing Catalina past version 0.4.3 (so that is the version to use)
3. Some people have recommended using DosDude's Catalina patcher (just to download - don't patch!):
Which then be patched via OCLP 0.4.3 - Check this post:

For now, myself, I use my two Firewire Quads on 10.14.6 and use UADx native on my Monterey NVMe Disk.
I have the Sonnet McFiver and it is working quite well. However, I'm not using the Ethernet port, even though a patch has appeared that can enable it now via OCLP for my 12.7 Monterey boot drive but NOT on my Mojave drive(soon to be Catalina) using 0.4.3.

On January 20th or so, I'm adding an UAD-2 Duo PCIe card to use my DSP plugins on Monterey. We'll see how that goes.
I may need to power down or disconnect my Satellites for the card to work? I will update in a week or so.

I'm learning, so you may get better advice from some other folks. Good luck and all the very best :)

PS: This helpful video was made on OCLP 0.4.3 if you're looking at Catalina -

"Or just buy current equipment:)"

Sure! Point taken.

However, with this option, there's the green problems:
1. There is a lot of energy/carbon/materials tied-up in my old Mac Pro
2. The new M2 Mac Pro Tower is over 10 grand! :oops:o_O:unsure::cool: Plus new UA gear too!

Previously I stated I would post back when I did my upgrade. Using OCLP 0.4.3 I have successfully
installed 10.15.7 Catalina. It sees both of my FireWire Satellites and my UAD-2 Duo PCIe card.

I was prepared to 'do battle' with the "Allow" issues in Security and Privacy, however, it was not an issue.
Because OCLP lowers SIP for some kexts, thus you do not need to "Allow" anything, it is already allowed!
I believe this is why @dansundquist wasn't seeing the Allow appear in Security and Privacy.

Other operating tips:
Going between my NVMe Monterey boot drive on my Sonnet McFiver and SSD Catalina is still not optimal.
For now: I have my Catalina Samsung SSD on an OWC Mac Pro mounting bracket.
And, if I wish to boot into Monterey, I remove the Samsung SSD bracket from my Mac Pro.
To boot back into Catalina: I insert the drive and then zap the PRAM (Cmd Opt P R).
Then the Mac Pro boots into Catalina.

Finally: I installed EnableGOP, but I still only see the Native bootpicker for Big Sur & Monterey

>>>>>>>>>>>

EDIT FOR EnableGOP: Lance from Mac Sound Solutions posted a newer more detailed video:

>>>>>>>>>>>

Since I need Catalina for FireWire Satellites, I must resort to the 'put in the the bracket, take it out' method.

Hopefully this can help some folks. All the Best!

PS: Additional Info for legacy Mac Pro users:
1. I am running UAD 11.0.1 and have the VST3 plugins working in Catalina with Reason 12.7
2. If you do use OCLP on a Mac Pro 4,1/5,1: The last 'tested' OCLP version is 0.4.3 for Catalina
3. I believe I have to 'pull and replace' my Catalina b/c the version of OCLP on my Monterey NVMe boot is 1.0.0

Carry on!
