Powercore MKI Problems with new mobo...

Cubase SX3.1. Windows XP SP2, AMD X2 4800. My ASUS A8V DELUX mobo died last week. I bought a new hard drive and re-installed Windows and all apps from scratch. I also replaced with a Gigabyte K8 series. So far so good.

However, -sometimes- when I load a CPR, Powercore Messenger appears and says that a 'Valid Powercore Cannot Be Found'. I have to do a cold boot in order to go ahead (hitting the reset switch does -not- seem to help). This happened with v2.0. I uninstalled v2.0 and re-installed 1.96 (the version I was using before my mobo fried.) but that doesn't seem to help.

Any ideas? Does the PCI slot position matter (it didn't seem to on the ASUS A8V DELUXE).

this happens once in a while with my system. i have come to the conclusion that the card, being so big and heavy, is working it's way out of the pci slot by a fraction (even though i have it screwed in firmly). usually for me, i just open pc, loosen the screw, reseat the card and re-tighten. it's fixed the problem so far.
a bit low tech, but you have nothing to lose...
heat may be an issue too; my system is internally smallish, and gets hot, so the card may be flexing a bit?

I use the Powercore Element card (the big piece of silicon that it is) and don't find any problems with it. Other than sometimes it goes into a loop cycle or stutters when I audtion loops when the load is quite high.

welcome to the powercore forum ;)

so, this \"sometimes\" is this:
- sometimes when you switch ON the DAW
or is it:
- you are already working and then \"suddenly\" the Poco stops responding?

I have 2 poco elements and made a habit to CHECK each time after bootup with the Poco tool IF both cards are present/ working BEFORE I start Nuendo...

Could be that your new mobo/ slot pci scanning is too fast for the boot-up sequence of the poco, there is this ON/ fast reset trick for this case...
