Precision Multiband eats all my CPU

Hi

I trying to use the Precision Multiband on a session with just 1 audio track, 1 other native plug opened, my latency at 100ms!! and I still get a asio overload message, and the track will not even playback. I have no other UAD plugs opend ..so what's going on? All the other plugs are fine even when I have about 12-14 plugs on a busy mix.

I'm using Logic 5.5.1 on a win XP SP 1 PC
I have 1 UAD 1 card
My Host CPU is 3 Ghz
Ram is 1gig
Asus p4p 800E Mother board
40 gig 72 rpm hardrive

Cheers

which native plugin? sometimes plugs with additional latency (eg waves phase-linear eq) can mess the uad up, but that's just a guess at this point.

I have the same problem. But I only experience that when the Multiband GUI is open. When I disable the dynamic EQ setting in the lowmiddle of the pluging also helped a little bit.

The plugin seem to consume a lot of native processing when editing the parameters and when GUI is visible. This should be implemented a lot more efficient.v

I had a Vintage Warmer opened but in by pass mode so shouldb't have been using any CPU...I need someone from UAD to advise on this, co's really don't see what I could be doing wrong. I got 13 demo days left and I want to evaluate this thing. I will be adding another UAD card in the near future, but I need a alternative good multi band comp for DIY mastering. Any otehr recomendations while were at it?

I don't have Vintage Warmer - is it a VST or a DirectX?
UAD plugs don't like going after a DX plugin that introduces latency to the system.

I know the PMB is working just fine here - and it is far from a resource hog!
An ASIO overlaod message is a strange one indeed though - I have never seen this behaviour. A friend of mine has Logic PC, last version, and he can use PMB with no trouble as well.

Incidentally - you shouldn't need to use a Multiband comp automatically on mastering. In fact, a well crafted mix should NOT need one at all.

Thanks Neil, It comes in both formats, I think I'm using it in vst..I need to double check, bust yes VW does add quite a lot of latencey..I'll try with out or the other way round. I wanted to compare both on my mix.

I agree somewhat with your statment about good mixes, but the mix I was doing has a lot of low end punch and needed something to bring the whole track together.

If VW is in VST mode, it shouldn't cause you any trouble AFAIK.
PMB is very good at tightening up a slack low end, for certain. There are times when remix is not an option, and with careful setting up PMB can really help.

But I don't know what the problem is if VW is in VST mode though.
What is your resolution? At 44.1Khz, you will get 50% DSP usage with one card, so at 88.2KHz, or 96KHz and only one card, that is your lot - and maybe not even then, as you can't normally go to 100% DSP usage.

It could just be you're out of DSP here.
