Precision Multiband Mastering Compressor videos ?

It made me realise that mastering is for people that know what they're doing.

A useful tool in the right hands, but not something that I'd want to spend $250 to learn how to use properly.

I am excited to see how the gate/expander works in single-band mode on individual tracks! Also I look foward to playing with this thing on the master buss, using only 1 wide band. This thing could kick ass on guitar or drum submixes too, where you need to tame only a few specific frequencies, or expand others, leaving the rest un-touched.

Looks like it could be a great desser to me...looking forward to trying it out. Its just another tool, shame I can't really afford it right now.

Some single band demos wouldn't go unnoticed UA.

Looks Gorgeous!!!! Still, my DB Audioware MB Limiter does the trick for as often as I use it. I might buy it just for its beauty though!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Why do you guys think it can operate as one full band instead of five? I carefully looked at the picture, and watched the videos, and I don't see anyway to make it use less than 5 bands.

I'm not too worried about that though... because I've always wanted a Master X5 that is linear-phase... and here it is! YEAY!!! :)

My only complaint is the GUI... it's BY FAR THE UGLIEST UAD plugin yet! And not by just a little bit.... it's one of the worst looking plugin gui's i've ever seen! (except for the DSP-FX and Voxengo stuff... those are like looking at vomit and fish guts, so discusting you can smell it!) Could this Precision Multi-Band possibly have more rainbow colors stuck onto a dark background... it's hidious!!! It's hard to see the controls, it's like looking at one of those strange optical-illusion pictures... it makes my eyes cross... The PMB makes DreamVerb look gorgeous! I'm guessing the GUI designer was on an acid trip...

Now now Dan - stopping sitting on the fence and tell us how you really feel.

I find the Voxengo plugs well-designed - clear and professional looking rather than overblown graphics.

Dan - it looks to me like you can have bands turned on individually, just like the Waves LinMB. I'm sure UA would at least keep up with the competition, feature-wise. I'm keen to hear how the compression algo has been developed - whether it's based on a particular machine or developed from the ground up.

I noticed the buttons above the graphical display... but, I'm not sure they are buttons, and in all the pictures they look like they are \"out\" and not \"in\". I'm kinda doubting it can do single band, 2-band, 3-band, and 4-band... but, I hope they prove me wrong! :)

This is the first GUI UA has done that I didn't like... and it's bad... really REALLY bad. All the Voxengo plugs have a terrible textured background... something only a programmer who knows nothing about visual design would do. And as for the UI, you know it's bad when you have to read the manual and memorize the meaning of the controls, modes, and swtiches just to use the damn thing. Good UI designs can be used without reading manuals. Voxengo is a perfect example of why programmers shouldn't design GUI's.

Yup! E should be for 'enable' and I would expect you can enlarge the freq bands for a broadband operation. I'm sure it was stated here by UA that is would do single band operation.

I happen to think the interface looks great - seems functional, much better than the Sonalksis CQ-1 for example....

the E for Enable is surely to turn the compression/expansion/etc on and off... not to remove the band and give you less bands.
Well thats true....

I guess its a combination of enabling just one band and the buttons above the display. They are surely buttons, like for toggle button comp/exp/gate etc on the left.

UA does this sucka do single band mode or not?

Oh I'm being a dick I just watched the vids again and its obvious the buttons above the freq graph are for toggling between bands to access control parameters.

So its starting to look like it cant do single broadband mode....

Dan - ah, I think I see what you mean - unless the freq bands can be removed rather than simply deactivated then it can't do single band (or unless the freqs can be overlapped). Is that what you meant?

I remember someone posting here that UA told him it'll do single band.

I remember that, too. Now I'm wondering if UA meant that you can 'choose' one single band if you like.
As nice and wonderful as the MBL looks and sounds in the videos, I probably won't go for it unless it can do single broadband compression. If it does I'll be all over it in a heartbeat. IMHO modern transparent compression is the one thing UA is missing.

Dan,

It looks beautiful to me. Then again, i like to stare at bright, shiny objects in my spare time for a hobby.

I like my women with biggimus breastus's too.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Also, beauty it skin deep.... Ugly is to the bone!
