Problems running new UAD plugins on PC running Logic 5.51

Hey peeps,

I've just purchased a new UAD card and several plugins to run on my PC, which is running Logic 5.51.

I have the UAD1e card.

I've installed the card, the computer is finding it - in fact the computer can find the plugins fine in Wavelab, and the three plugins I've purchased on top, Dreamverb, Fairchild Compressor and an Eq, all run in Wavelab fine.

Unfortunately, Logic can't seem to find the plugins. They just don't come up when I look for them under VSTs (or anywhere else) in Logic.

I've tried reinstalling Logic and reinstalling the UAD software etc, and no luck.

The plugins folder is in the right folder within Logic (Logic VSTs), so Logic should be able to find them. I've even tried moving the specific files for the plugins I've purchased out of the main plugins folder so they sit directly in the Logic VSTs folder, but no luck.

The UAD meter says the card is fine and lists the plugins I've purchased as being unlocked.

Can anyone help? I've spent a load of money and can't wait to use these plugins! Please help...

Cheers,

Ben

OK, the UAD people got back to me with the following advice:

Hello,

Unfortunately, for some years now Emagic has not supported Logic
on a PC, thus, the UAD is not listed as being compatible with this program
on a PC. I suggest, if you have had success with this in the past, try to recreate
the same identical conditions as in previous years, driver versions, opererating system etc...
Older drivers for the UAD can be downloaded here:

forum wont let me publish web address

So I'm going to try and install older drivers and see if that works. Any tried this? Anyone successfully running UAD on an Logic 5.51? If so, what is your set up?

Cheers,

Ben

All I can tell is: I run 5.51 on my PC together with the latest version of the uad-plugs without any problems (XP SP2). I have an asus board (P4800Deluxe) and 3 UAD-PCI Cards.

I've tried running the plugins enabler, no luck

apparently the only drivers which will work are the 3.9 issue. so i downloaded these and I can see the Direct X versions of the plugins now

however i can't see the VST versions

and when I try to open the direct x plugins I get the message

error code -1 was returned by the Asio driver.

Something i saw elsewhere suggests that the problem may be that I'm running Wingows XP rather than 2000?

I really don't want to move to 2000 though, or Cubase, which is the only other step

any thought chaps?

..and the plugins are in the right folder, logics vst folder? Do they show up in the plugin enabler? If not, the plugs are likely to sit in a wrong folder...

strange, it should work. DX is not the way to go...

Strange....v4.7 and Logic 5.5.1 pc with winXP works fine with the regular UAD-cards, so maybe it has something to do with pci-e?

Good luck,

Peter

You should also be aware that Logic 5.51 has no automatic plugin delay compensation for the UAD plugins. This can be a right pain in the arse, trying to keep all your audio synchronised every time you insert a plugin. Another reason to move to Cubase!

this seems unlikely since I can find the plugins in Cubase and Wavelab fine (yes I've made the first steps of a move to Cubase but really hope I can solve this on Logic).

True, but I guess there could still be a problem specifically with Logic5.5.1 and the PCI-e drivers. In theory...

all they've been able to do is give me the advice above re: older drivers, which I've tried.

ah OK... so I should try installing some older PCI-e drivers?

To tell you the truth, I have no experience with pci-e and don´t even know exactly what it is, so I don´t really know...but it might be worth a try. Or at least drop UA another mail and ask them if they think there might be compability issues with the pci-e version that doesn´t happen with the older pci cards.

Maybe someone more knowledgable in pci-e could chime in on this?

I´ve had weird things happening sometimes after uad-updates, for no evident reasons. Sometimes a reinstall is enough. Other times it turns out it´s due to some interaction with other new components or updates. For instance, the latest uad-drivers didn´t work with the latest i-Lok drivers installed. Crashes and errors everytime I opened a plugin. So I rolled back to an older i-Lok driver and all is fine...
