Question about OX Stomp Presets, Switches and Rigs

I'm looking at an OX Stomp to use with my Lion. The main reasons for this are:
  • Ability to use two presets, but one has a volume boost via the master EQ for solos
  • Ability to add reverb (and maybe basic delay)
My questions are regarding the setup of the switches, presets and rigs. By the looks of it, you can only assign A/B to two different presets. I thought at first that this meant two presets per rig, but after watching some videos it looks like it actually switches between rigs, meaning you can only have two presets (A & B) in the A/B + Reverb setup. Is this true? What happens if you change the rig with the dial? Say you've got A & B assigned to rigs 1 & 2 and you change the rig dial to 3 - does it turn on rig 3? What does the switch do at that point? Switch to 1 & 2? How would you get back to 3?

I guess I could do the A/B/C/D setup, but it would suck to then lose the reverb button!

Sorry if I sound like I'm losing my mind, but the setup is really not clear.

Ideally, I'd have two presets per rig (one louder for solos), and then I could have multiple different rigs, all the while being able to turn reverb on and off as well.

Thanks!

You gave me an idea so I just tested and when in a/b + reverb you can only assign the a and b and then the rig knob selects your A rig and the b rig will stay the same. I just setup so the boosted preset also has delay and now another level of versatility. Hope that helps

Edit..
I just tested this better. when you use A/B when you are on A and you turn the rig knob it assigns which of your 6 rigs is A and if you are on B then the rig knob will select which rig is B. I assume its probably the same for if you are using the C/D mode as well.

Interesting.

So let’s say I have a 4x12 preset as A. Then I turn the Rig knob and it changes it to a 2x12. Then I hit the switch to go to my B preset. What happens when I hit the switch back to A? The newly-assigned 2x12 or the original 4x12?

It will be the 2x12 becuase you re-assigned it with the rig knob. Which is wonderful being able to do without having to go in the app.

Okay! I can work with that haha.

My issue is I use different cabs for clean and dirty so I’d need to change rigs each time if I wanted to reserve B for solos.

Thanks again for this response. I've had it for a few days and I've got 5 rigs built and it works perfectly for what I need.

It's amazing how much better I can get each of my gain pedals to sound when I customize a rig just for them!

Honestly this sounds like a great use case scenario for something a bit more powerful like the HX Stomp. You could have as many presets as you want using whatever effects (and significantly more options/controls with effects), volume boost block, etc and cab IR's and MIDI control, true software editing interface and an easy UI on the pedal itself.

This gets you working with the strengths of the helix vs working around the limitations of the OX Stomp.

You trade the better sound of the OX Stomp for crazy flexibility (and honestly, if you have good IR's, it's not terrible)
