question AMD X2 dual core driver

Hallo,
I purchased last week a ASUS A8 Mainboard and an AMD X2 3800 dual core
cpu.

I have no problems til now. Only one VST Instrument (SFZ rgcaudio ) is not working in Cubase SX 2.2. But I`ve not tested all.

Is it necessarily to install the ms hotfix 896256 ?

I also found on http://www.Amd.com about a dual core driver

AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Version (exe) 1.3.1 - Allows the system to automatically adjust the CPU speed, voltage and power combination that match the instantaneous user performance need. Download this Setup Installation program (EXE) to automatically update all the files necessary for installation. This package is recommended for users whom desire a graphical user interface for installation. This .EXE driver is a user friendly localized software installation of the driver designed for end-users. This driver supports AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core processors on Windows XP SP2 and Windows 2003 SP1.
Somebody has installed this AMD driver. Is it good to install this driver for a better performance ?

best regards
Reinhard

I have an Asus A8N-Sli Premium Board with an AMD 4800+ and installed the hotfix and the amd driver what improved system performance (slightly).

However I did that back than when I used sonar but no uad-1. And I haven't had any problems to be solved.

I'm now using samplitude pro and one uad-1 and it runs smoothly. However I haven't used this combo without the hotfix and driver.

896256 addresses a problem ID'd by M$. When you install it, be sure to set the registry (per the M$ hotfix directions) to a 1. It helped my trouble with CPU spikes considerably.

From what I've heard the free SFZ does not work with dualcores atm, only the commercial version has been fixed.
Ask Cakewalk about this issue.
