The lady in the video kept saying Luna Pro... What's up with that?

She is using plugins included in the LUNA Pro Bundle.

She's a good producer and songwriter. Too bad those vocals were re-pitched and no matter how much she tried to make them sound good it couldn't be done. That alone killed the video for me and I stopped watching at some point.

It's interesting to me. I consider myself a n00b and I watch videos and read comments to learn. But what I find strange with UA, in this case, is that people always comment saying things like "the person in the video clearly has no clue about bass [or whatever]" and I am thinking "UA obviously watched this, and was in on this, it's not a random youtuber as some seem to think - or at the very least UA gave the video their stamp of approval" So how can these things happen? From re-pitched vocals to not level matching when A-B-ing [good nowadays, not so much in the past].

But other than that, I really liked the concept and hoping for more like this. Although I personally prefer they kept everything UA.

It's complicated.

We reach out to people about making vids like this, but really, they're on their own for the most part when making them. We don't want to intrude too much.

If it's shot in our studio in Santa Cruz (like my quick tips vids), then it's ALL UA.

Ah, yea I understand!

I love your videos! 🔥
I wish you guys would do a series like the one above, from start to finish!
And maybe something with SCS, not only demoing individual instruments, I think that would be really appreciated! 👍

Well, the vox as well as the entire production is better at the end than it was at the start.
Also, consider her audience. I’m sure it skews WAY younger than most of us. IME, repitched vocals is a sound they like as an aesthetic. *That’s not a value judgement, just an observation.

Thanks!!! yeah, I have lots of "dreams" for 2024 for my video output. I'd love to do a full blown mix demo with all UA stuff (this is what I do with my clients everyday), so we'll see!!

Remember too that what sounds good or bad to you might sound horrible or amazing to someone else. It's pretty much impossible to make a video that 100% of the viewers would think is 100% perfect.

Bottom line is, you can almost always learn at least something from it... even if what you learn is "Note to self: Don't do this."

This seems to be the case—anecdotally based on what my teenager and their friends are listening to, tuned vocals are either a thing they like or they have through constant exposure become inured to what I would consider its annoyingness.

It's conditioning. Just as anyone that came up on distorted electric guitar has been.

Imagine listening to Bill Haley in the 50s, with all that "clean" guitar. 10-15 years later, there was all this "distortion" that the kids loved.......

That’s a great example!
When I first heard Rock Around the Clock, I “thought” I was hearing overdriven guitar playing the riff behind the vocals. This was second generation for me - early 1970s. What I was really hearing was a Baritone Sax popping that riff.

The solo in that tune, which is pretty clean, is a miniature masterpiece and technically fairly advanced - even in this day and age.
Danny Cedrone.

Amazing solo, especially the downward chromatic bit at the end. Ripping.

I think Elvis’ version of Hound Dog was my early indoctrination into guitar (although the drums still kill me on this cut) it definitely sounds like a Fender amp being pushed as far as they might go in the 50’s.

Maybe the kids think blue-notes sound racist?
I dunno anymore.

Tuned vocals are just a sonic texture, artistically, nothing good or bad about it.

Nothing artistically wrong with an imperfect vocal either, makes the track more human: chasing perfection can take all the vibe out of a track.

Tuning, I now hear, as an artistic decision about the mix, so I consider its musicality and if its causing me to engage more or less with the track.
