"Requested buffer size did not match the other plugins" Error

I am suddenly getting "The requested buffer size 128 did not match the other plugins. The expected buffer size is 1024."

I'm in Studio One. I cannot find any way to tell the UAD plugins to expect my current buffer size in S1. I turned off "extra buffering" in the Control Panel.

I saw a very old thread here but no solution :(

are you running some UAD2 plug-ins inside Console and others in your DAW? Does this happen with IDC turned off? I suspect this ‘expected buffer size’ may be coming from there.

I don't use the Console -- there's nothing in there. And I have no idea what "IDC" is :)

This is related to the two buffer settings Studio One employs.

Occasionally when you do things like change the project sample rate or disable and re-enable a heap of UAD plugins it gets confused about whether you’re running the interface block size or the playback dropout protection size.

It can also happen after rendering down plugins.

Just open the project again.

I reopened the project several times. I get the error every time.
I did not open a lot of UAD plugins only about 4.

Oh wait, I opened it again, loaded 2 UAD plugins and got the error. Then I saw you talked about interface block size and dropout and I remembered that S1 has two separate settings. I turned off dropout protection, which lowered it to 128, which is the same as the interface buffer I set. Then I loaded some UAD plugins and did NOT get the error message!

Thank you!!! Mystery solved!

You should be able to run block at 128 and dropout at maximum (2048) without issues unless you always use and play live with a lot of virtual instruments - that can also mess with it.

Having dropout off will make your CPU work much harder during playback.

Using UAD plugins as inserts on virtual instruments and monitoring them while playing live is another trigger. In this case - disable UAD plugins in the virtual instrument monitoring chain while playing the part and then enable them when done.

Im having this in Cubase when using a mix of UAD and UADx plugins. Its telling me the requested buffer is 256 and expected is 512.

Ive tried a few things. Just unsure if this is something to be adjusted in Cubase settings, RME (audio interface) settings or with either UAD or UAD Connect.

And its saying this when i render only. Doesnt seem to cause any audio issues but makes me paranoid about rendered files having errors

Yeah it’s very likely Cubase sets a different buffer for rendering than it does for playback.

UAD plugins are the only ones that seem to suffer this issue on my system as well.
