roland dimension D trick

I once had a chat with a recording engineer who several years ago
recorded A-HA. He told me a trick they used in this recording process.

Its a 2 button trick, similar to the \"all buttons\" trick that, according to him, gives great sound for bass/bassguitar.

Is this a feature on the plugin version of dimension D?

Anyone know more about this trick?

What else coudl you do other than in/out ?

I havent actually tried it myself, but its supposed to be a kind of forced mode where you press 2 buttons at once and the buttons get stuck inbetween modes and you get a result that the machine wasnt actually supposed to do.
something that was discovered by mistake...
maybe its a well hidden trick that not many know of?
i dont know, but its from a reliable sorce as he told me in person what he did.

From the manual:
Multiple Buttons
True to the original hardware, multiple Dimension Mode buttons can be engaged simultaneously for subtle sonic variations of the four main modes. To engage multiple Dimension Mode buttons, press the Shift key on the computer keyboard while clicking the Mode buttons
I've used it. It's a nice feature.

In Cubase or Nuendo, hold down Control and Shift when you click the little \"e\" button. It brings up a non-GUI version that has a mode slider for various single or combination modes.

WHAT!

then theorhetically I could link the parameter to a midi cc knob, and adjust it the same and it wont act like a "switch"?

DAW...power on...

Well, if the plug-in has not been programmed for in-between modes, you ain't gonna get them no matter what GUI you use; the GUI controls only what runs underneath.
