If I have a 24/44.1 mix (unmastered) which should end up at 16/48 (DVD), is it best to to the SRC before mastering? Will there be any sonic differences if I just SRC the 16/44.1 mastered file to 16/48?

The SRC should be done during mastering - That's the whole point of mastering. Final adjustments and conversion to the final production master.

Hi,
I'm doing the mastering myself. So I have full control over the process.

If I do the SRC before mastering, then the mastering project in Cubase will run at 48KHz. Otherwise I will run the same project at 44KHz, doing the SRC on the output file.

Running plugins at different samplarates gives a different result. I'm just not sure what approach would give me the best result. I was thinking that if I did the SRC before I ran the file into the mastering plugs, then the result might be better?

I would try to run a \"snippet\" both ways to see what works best.

IMO, in most cases, if you're already reconstructing the file using DSP or plugs, you'd probably be better off doing the SRC at that point.

One thing's for sure - I'd rather work in 24 bit over 16 bit at any sample rate.
