Sampled Waveforms vs. Original UAD Plate 140

Hello,
Everybody is talking about original instrument vs. UAD-1.
But now you can find out about the difference of the original UAD Plate 140 and the 'fake' Plate 140.
Somebody sampled all the standard Plate140 preset's. You can find them at:

http://www.echochamber.ch/responses/uad140/uad140_32bit.zip

to use them you need a VST plug-in like SIR (free impulse response processor)

http://www.knufinke.de/sir/Sir_1011.zip

Now you can find out about the quality of impulse responses. If you like it, you can find a lot more impulse responses here:

http://www.echochamber.ch/responses/index.html

The site is in german, but with a little 'brainwork' you find out what TeeCee, Quantek or lexikon960 means
Have fun

Thanks for that!

For a moment though I thought you meant that you had some Impulses from a real Plate 140 to compare, rather than the difference between the plugin and an impulse of the plugin...

congratulations, you are the 10,000th user to make this comparison.

this is funny in that the plate 140 didnt have \"presets\" its mechanical after all, youd need an infinite library of impulses just to cover all the decay times.

you might want to check out http://www.noisevault.com as well.

convolution is a great shortcut if all you need is one setting for the whole song, but if you wanna do automation tricks etc the an emulation is better than convolution.

and in the case of the plate 140 i think uad-1 sounds better anyways, theres always an extra set of converters to color an impulse.

not to mention the dsp cpu savings with uad-1

Well, just to be an ass I'd say that there don't have to be any extra sets of conversion when sampling a hardware digital device, much less a software plug-in. Digital loopback is easily performed with most soundcards....however I'm not sure if those IRs were created that way but to my ears they don't sound as good as the plugin, a lot more 'static' - no evolution in the tail like the plug.

10.000 comparisons and you are not able to point to let's say 0.05% of these?
Cannot imagine that 10.000 users make a comparison and that nobody publishes the result.
