Here's a Good Rule of thumb -

if you want multiple elements of the song to have the exact same FX, you use a send.

if you only want one element of the song to have an effect, you use an insert.

First off I am reverb challenged. That said, sometimes I get the best results with a vocal reverb as a send instead of an insert. For some reason using wet/dry mix doesn't seem to get the same results. But then again, refer to the first sentance.

Like I said too someone else, I consider a reverb effect as an \"artificial room\" effect. In this scenario I would use it as a send.

For individual track effects I would keep it a short decay or a longer decay with very little wet/dry ratio. Again I'm no expert.

Yeah, if I put realverb on as an insert, I'm always pulling back the decay and the wet/dry is usually around 8% or less. Usually on vocal, however, I'm using reverb very sparingly to kind of push it back a little while still staying present and up front. But again, I'm reverb challenged.

Thanks guys. Keep it comin! :)

How about Analogue flux suite (tape sim, chorus, etc) ??

Is the waves SSL comp ment to be used for group channels?

Interesting topic. On a related note, I remember some years ago people on various forums were singing the praises of using two different reverbs cascaded either as sends or inserts.

Whenever I tried it, all I could get was mush. But then I'm just a composer, not an engineer.

Anyone heard of this practice? Or was it just BS?

Kind regards.

Not done this, but using 3-4 different reverbs on the same track (as sends) has worked for me. For example: a NonLin2 to make the track sound bigger (very short decay, kinda gated-like) and then maybe a mixture of Plate 140 and Princeton Digital 2016 Stereo Room for the desired ambience.

However, sometimes just an instance of ClassicVerb is just enough. 8)

Thanks for your response, Akis.

BTW, I agree with your post concerning algorithmic vs convolution reverbs.

Kind regards.
