Seventh Circle Audio (SCA) DIY Kits (BF Coupon)

Hey Folks,

I just wanted to give a plug to Seventh Circle Audio (https://www.seventhcircleaudio.com) as a great place selling fantastic DIY kits - mostly for preamps but they also do a compressor and EQ filter (maybe more too).

About 12 years ago I bought two of their custom chassis to build clones of Neve, API, Hardy, Millennia and more recently picked up some SSL 9000 preamps (which are seriously underrated/unfairly represented in my opinion). The kits are incredibly well engineered with great instructions.

They're designed with true-to-spec gain stages and no corner cutting on the circuit design with only the highest quality transformers and op-amps are used.

Those original units I built are still going strong and I love using them.

Recently they have also moved into making 500 series modules as well that deliver great tones in that smaller format. I'd still recommend their custom case with PSU solution as they can stuff more into those longer PCBs (and often more volts as well). It's an 8 module rack unit.

Anyway, it is a great way to get into the DIY world and own super good representations of these classic preamps in hardware form if that's your thing - I haven't heard very many other products that claim to do it get close to these units.

They've got a BF coupon at the moment for 10% off (which is a very rare thing) and if you have ever considered doing any modular DIY things - they're a great company to support who are making fantastic stuff that I don't think is pumped up on the Internet anywhere near enough.

You'd be hard pressed to find a bad review of them anywhere.

The coupon is just on their site for a while - SCABLACKFRIDAY2023

Rock on ✌🏻

Their API uses the same transformers as the A Designs Pacifica. I prefer it over the 3124.

Their Neve is good but I prefer the AML over it.

I built a rack of 8 (2 A12, 2 N72, 2 J99, 2 C84) many years ago...like when they were just getting going and they are still in use today. Solid preamps.
If you can build and solder, tough to beat the price but not sure you can get J99 Hardy discreet opamps anymore.

Yes! The AML stuff is top notch. I haven't tried their 500 series version (I just haven't heard a 500 series Neve in one slot that sounds right) ... but their rack unit is fantastic.

I really like on the SCA stuff how you can configure the N72 to use the second knob as a fader rather than trim. You can drive it super heavily and then drop the output.

Nice one Kev - they're super great. I actually built my J99s with the SCA 990 opamp but they don't make them in house anymore. It looks like you can actually still buy them from JH directly ... they're actually in the picture of the J99 on the SCA site now instead of their own ones.

That preamp is deceptively good.

I bought my opamps direct from JH at the time. Nice to have 4 different stereo flavors in one rack.
