Should we use a HP filter on when mastering around 30Hz?

Do we need the frequencies below 30Hz? I heard it is best to knock them out? Should this be done in mastering or to individual tracks in mix?
thanks

It's not so much a style thing, as it is the song, and the instruments.

For example, you don't want to cut higher than the frequency of the lowest bass note (whether it is bass guitar, upright, cello, moog, whatever...). Low E on a 4 string bass is usually about 41Hz, and the low B on a 5 string around 31Hz... but the bass player might not even hit the lowest note in a song, so you need to check that out first (find the lowest note he/she plays).

Then, you have to take the kick drum into acount. And the only way to choose how much you are willing to take away is to \"listen while you sweep\" (\"do de do do do do de\")... preferably in a good room, with good monitors... or you can just use good headphones.

Thanks - this is good advice!

how much slope for a hp cut on a kick on a bass or on a master.. i mean to have a clean cut with no undesired effects.. i write that because is not so simple to understand basses in a home project studio..
