smoother softsynth playback in FL6 than Cubase 4

I just made an experiment with Cubase 4 and Rewired FL6.
In both sequencers I loaded the same softsynth (Vanguard) with the same preset @ 48kHz/32bit float. A bright detuned saw wave sound.
During playback I have to notice, that the output of FL6 sounds much smoother in the high frequencies than Cubase.
As if rendered/interpolated \"better\". I am really surprised.
Other synths showed the same result.
Cubase seems to sound a bit harsh.
No EQs/FX were used.

Is this possible just because of the host application?

Update: Differences in the whole frequency spectrum.
FL6: smooth in the high frequencies, lacking power in the bass. Narrower stereo imaging.
Cubase: powerful bass but harsh hi freq.

Still confused about this :-k

cubase 4 sounds fine to me. so many variables here; it could be your soundcard, monitors, ears or indeed, cubase 4 could sound worse than fl6. i don't have fl6 so i can't compare.

Well, it's not worse, but obviously different (no esoteric "something very subtle"). Output devices: RME 9652, A16 Ultra, Yamaha MSP-10 & headphones for crosscheck.

I use Cubase for ages and never changed the system. Just added FL6 for getting another type of workflow for inspirations, because it is fun to play with.
But those differences in sound ...

Sorry, if this should be an old already known discovery.

some people on cubase.net claimed to hear differences in sound of cubase 4 to cubase sx3. some thought it was better, some worse. steinberg say that since the audio engine is identical, there is no difference.
as for fl6, maybe they eq the output slightly?
why not try mixing down a stereo track in fl6. import that into cubase.
export is under a new file name.
import both into a stereo editor package and then put one out of phase. if they are the same, they will cancel out. if there really are differences, you win the coconut!

Already made this and they are NOT flat zero!
The differences between FL6 and C4 play around -20dbFS in the Low and High areas and look similar to a typical HiFi-loudness curve, where FL6 is responsible for this effect.
BUT: rendering a softsynth in C4 @ 96kHz lets C4 sound better (for me!). FL6 stays nearly the same.

Anyway, there are differences and with the numerous possibilities of exporting the final track I can choose what I like.

I always found these threads to be the height of pointlessness. Who cares? You are going to mix the way you are going to mix no matter if 12k is hyped in Ableton and FLS seems to roll off at 12k. Which they dont, but you get my point.
Too much time on your hands my friend.

All of a sudden I miss the threads where everyone whines about UAD's pricing structure and how the coupons are unfair.

In my experience, anything that colours sound isn't really accurate anyway. A lot of people used to criticise Reason for not having a vibrant sound and sounding uncoloured. Well that's always been a bonus factor for me.
