so what happened between v3.9 and v4.0

so, up until v3.9, i had a stable UAD-1 system. the moment v4 was released, everything just went to hell. the introduction of the turbo mode which supposedly increases performance for AMD8131 chipsets has, at least in my experience, made things worse. using sonar, i can't fast bounce without audio stuttering, then i just loaded a large project with several uad plugs in, and it made my native cpu zoom up to over 90%. going back to 3.9, my native cpu is back to about 30%.

sorry to rant, but it's really frustrating and i've had to drop back down to v3.9 for everything to work the way it used to. that means no dimension d nor the precision multiband.

i've tried moving the card around, but i shouldn't have to do this for a system that has always worked correctly!

anyway, i just had to get that off my chest...

AMD Opteron 246 dual
Tyan S2885
2GB RAM
160GB x2
GeForce FX5200

you may want to check out v.4.1
HTH, .c

tried that already. 4.1 fixed the stuttering in fast bounce problem, BUT when i loaded an older project, i'd get stuttering in playback and the UAD CPU went up to 91% and sonar's CPU metter went into the red.

this is when i wrote my rant....

dropped back to 3.9 and everything's fine. sonar's cpu is hovering around 30%.

Hi There,

Somehow, all these driver updates, flashing hardware, matching hardware set-ups, version compatibilities..... Flushing toilets.... are all driving me mad!!!

Not pointing fingers! Just hoping things get better for all of us.

Cheers,
KAyo

I had trouble too after 4.1 was installed. I tried it on a project where my 2 cards are running at +90%. Pops and clicks all over and the CPU meter went to 100%. After rolling back to 3.9 all problems were gone.

3.9 is fine for me, but I can imagine the frustration of the people in need of that 4.1 version...

My system:
AMD 3200+/Asus A8V deluxe
Win XP pro
Cubase SX3.1
MOTU 828 mk2

I too went from 4.1 back to 3.9.

I was getting Error 21with 4.1 . . . .

When back at 3.9, no problems.

@raja & KAyo: What system are you using?

All listed systems in this thread are AMD systems. Could be something there... ?

I am using INtel 3.2 Ghz,
My problem is exactly what the very first post said, sputter and clicks.. All other plugs work fine. including my TC powercore... Only UAD plug, if I use more than one UAD plug in a chain... sputtterrrrrr!!! A UAD plug all on its own.. no problem.. any other plug next to it, may it be a UAD or a non UAD plug........ spuuuttterrrr!!!

I dont know whats wrong, I wish somebody did.
Thanking you all,

Cheers,
KAyo

That sounds like a PCI buss stretched to the max.
Working fine in 4.1 here on a Dual Xeon system.

Maybe there should be a new sticky thread for posting details of NON working systems, and lets see if we can identify this.
Personally, we tried AMD once before and have had nothing but trouble.
Intel all the way here now, and zero issues that were not my fault.

That's a good idea, Neil. I think we should discuss all the issues extensively in their own topics and when we isolate the non-compatible parts, I'll post them to the 'non-working parts' thread.

I think its largely due to some changes in the way plugins get loaded to the card and how they are allocated.

Load up your problem song and then check the ua control panel and see if one card is full, if so save each plugins settings and unload and reload them itll probably get allocated correctly this time.

Then save. should be fine next time its opened.
