Define big latency, if you please? Any audio fx/softsynth plugin will have an inherent latency, which is determined by your project/audio driver buffer setting, when you are using it, in realtime, on live input. The UAD-1 will have 2x the project/audio driver latency because data has to travel out, to the card and then back again. The lower you have your project/audio card buffers set, the less latency you will have.
The UAD-1 was designed and is best utilized when used with existing recorded tracks. That way, your host app (SONAR) will automatically compensate, for any inherent delay. Auto PDC (plugin delay compensation) only works with previously recorded tracks, not on live input. Unless, you can consistantly track, with your DAW rig, at 2msec latency or less, it is best to save the UAD-1 plugins, for when it's time to mix. Even @ 2msec you are still going to have at least 4msec, of delay (2x the project latency) and that is cumulative. Each additional UAD-1 plugin, in a FX bin adds, to the delay.

Im opening old tracks, i add a La2 to a vocal and theres 2 vocals. Its about half a second delay if not more. Also the plugin itself doesnt work... the knobs do nothing.

Okay, with existing tracks, SONAR should be auto compensating for any inherent delay, during playback. If there is a half second delay and the plugins do not respond, there is obviously something not setup right, with your system and/or the UAD-1.

Is this the first time using the UAD-1 plugins, with your computer? Are any other native VST plugins working properly? If you updated to v4.2, from a previous version, did you do a manual reset and then rescan (recommended), from the VST configuration tool? Also, visually check each UAD-1 plugins VST property page, afterwards, to verify that the "enable delay compensation" option has indeed been checked.

You may want to contact UA support directly, with your exact system specs and detailed explanation, of your problem.

Right another update. it only happens with MONO uad plugins. Stereo ones work perfectly fine but mono ones create a delay....

Oh, no wonder then, you are only supposed to install and use the mono plugins, when using Logic, as your host app. That is what they were specifically designed for. It is in the manual and readme file. Uninstall the plugins and re-install just the regular stereo plugins. There is an option, at install, to select/de-select the mono versions. Make sure this stays de-selected. All audio hosts (other than Logic) will recognize and properly use the UAD-1 stereo plugins, as either mono or stereo, depending on the source material. The Fairchild 670, should be the the only plugin, to still have a mono version, after you re-install the correct versions. The Fairchild does normally come with a separate mono/stereo versions. This does work with other apps, like SONAR, BTW.

Cheers,
