I was here already discussed white this topic.

At the moment I work with a G4 1.25 dual under MAC OSX 10.4. In my system two Uad-1 and a TC power core are present. Everything runs smoothly.

I plan myself to buy a G5 next month . Since I work under Cubase with CPU hungry programs such as NI Reaktor 5, Absynth 3 and Kontakt 2, I could use additional processor achievement well. I use one beside two Uad-1´s a tc power core PCI card.

The Powercore runs in connection with other cards exclusive on G5´s with PCi X Slots. If I buy a G5 also with normal PCI Slots my powercore PCI card works any longer. And on the virus and other Plugins I would not like to do without. A Upgrade on mkII would solve this problem. But that would cost 498.00 euro....

I read in the support, the performance of the Uad-1 on a G5 with Pci x Slots should not have been the best. And that additionally still processor resources host to be used would have.

I could live with the fact that I could use possibly less Plugins. But do the Uad-1 runs stably on this MACs? Is the enterprise of two Uad-1 cards satisfying? Does the enterprise of different cards function smoothly? Is the additional CPU load for host/(Cubase SX) by use several cards substantially?

it is importantly for me that my system further stably runs. And which I reach by the purchase of a G5 an Achievement rise under Cubase SX.

It is worth to buy for me with these facts one (for example G 2.3 or 2.5 dual) ?

And sorry for my bad english….

Yes it runs stably in OSX on my dual 2.0 G5. And even though you cannot use quite as many plug-ins with a PCI-X as a PCI your overall power will certainly be more with the dual G5.

Hi.

i have just bought a latest 2.0 PCI (not PCI-X) model for the same reasons.

The added power (and expense) of a 2.3 or 2.7 would be somewhat counteracted when using a high number of UAD plug ins. Also, there is not that much more power. i got a very good deal from the apple store on and end of line unit.

UAD's work fine with MOTU PCI-424.

I had the same idea. Until I read that the powercore PCI in connection with the Uad-1 not works in this computer. I have no desire to spend a lot of money only to Upgrade this PCI card to mkII. To register my distributed Plugins like the Virus and the d-coder, i must also send the old PCI Card to TC ... #-o .

and 498 € are.....

I would think that a Magma might be the cure and it's less then €498 on ebay. I have the same set-up as you, but I've got a 2 UAD-1's and 3 PowerCore's (2 mkI's and 1 mkII) running in my magma and I get by very well.

I was also planning to step up once the quadra's where out. But, now I find my self wondering if I shouldn't go for a Dual 2.7 and be done with for the next couple of years and wait until the Intel transition is over.
