Space Echo ETA?

Forgive me if this has been covered, but is there an ETA on the space echo? I thought all the Roland thingees were to be released in 2005.

I know there's all manner of excitement over the multi-band comp, but as a lowly guitarist, I'm much more interested in the echo than *YAC.

Hey Tony..

Do you really think the delay ( pun not intended ) is solely becuase they couldn't crack the tape emu aspect yet?

Or would you consider an alternative reason, such as economics.

Perhaps releasing 3 Roland Emus in a row was considered too niche for too long?

Every man and his dog are mastering at home these days. The PMB will sell bucketloads. Good business sense me thinks :)

I thought that joke would go over better, but you know physical comedy....

anyways, I definately do think it has to do with getting bogged down in the modeling of tape, remember a model can be as detailed as you can make it, on into infinity. this is one plugin where they could easily floor the dsp if they wish.

In a magazine interview, i believe it was sos or one of those, this summer the UA head, and forgive me im name retarded so i can never ever remember names especially when i try, said stuff about modeling tape being very difficult. I can for sure see where that might be true.

its a lot of really powerful subtleties.

actually the release date is *not that important* - what IS important is that UA continue to do things right. I'd rather have a plug that nails the sound and wait for half a year more. Keep up the good work !

Yes. As you may know, the rocket-scientists at UA were officially "WARNED," right here on this forum, just a mere few threads ago!

I have to read that post :)

btw I'd love to think that UA actually hired rocket scientists to do plugins.
Werner von Braun working late hours on... Nigel !?

final kudos go to Paul Woodlock for the lovely comment on the 'delay' of the space echo. I wish I had come up with that :)

cheers

yes modeling tape has never been pulled off successfully yet in the software domain , i presume UA want to be the first to crack it hence the long wait. :D
the tape modelling in the digital yamaha mixers is supposed to be very good...anybody any experiences with it?

I want that 201 bad!!!

Sounds like it will be worth the wait with all those features though. I can really imagine myself using this on every single track..there is always room for some subtle tape-delay or cheapo spring verb besides the occasional heavy-handed runaway dub echo. If they model this thing well it should be able to add an awesome warm tone to guitars too just by running through it.

I'm guessing the PMB will be out before the new year and the ETA for the Echo is Feb. or March 06, but maybe they will surprise us with an earlier release.

In the meantime...Suntower, or any of you delay fans: checked out the AudioDamage Dubstation? A really good sounding tweaker-friendly BBD chip effect with feedback looping, sweepable HPF, and a reverse feature. Maybe this will hold you off until then?

?
I remember reading that all the Roland plugs were going to be released in 2005 - with the Space Echo coming in the fourth quarter. I was thinking this thing was gonna be released in the next few weeks here. Has UA officially changed their plans? Sounds like you guys may have read something I haven't (?)

I had a space echo that had flutter and tape problems and it sounded wonderful... (could sound like 'stepping onto the planet' in the movie Alien).
When the bearing wore out, i had it fixed and then i didn't like it (ie tame, ran properly)...

If i was going to design it, I would add:

bad motor bearing knob...
tape head malfunction knob...
mechanical noise generation knob (bleeding into signal path)...
wow knob..
flutter knob..
poor quality tape knob...
malfunctions fx feedback knob (for the above fx - independent of delay itself)... this would be cool for soundscape generation, dark ambient mood stuff..

The nice thing about the space echoes (to me) is that they can 'have problems' in interesting ways, and therefore each unit can be a totally different animal..

Unfortunately, Roland may not want to highlight too many 'delectable problem anomalies' for the unit..
It may also be a moot point because it may be 'done' already and they may think im a moron for wanting all that (or unreasonably greedy)...

Awesome idea, I too would love it if they did this!
