Stereo to quadraphonic surround monitoring

Hi,
I would like to create a Quadraphonic setup using the Apollo X8 but I can't make it work so a stereo recording (from Spotify, or the DAW master stereo out, or a stereo file playing in Quicktime) is reproduced simultaneously on both front and rear speakers. It is possible? Ideally that would be done with Virtual channels. I have tried to find a solution in the Apollo manual and tweaked the Audio-MIDI setup but no luck.
Thank you!

In order for an Apollo to output a given format, it needs content in that format. So in this case, you'd need Quad content and you'd set it to 5.1 and Center and Sub would be ignored.

If you're trying to take stereo content and get it to come out of 4 speakers, that's not going to happen inside Console.

That material would to be "upmixed" first and played from an app.

Hope this helps.

Hi Drew and thank you for the fast answer!!
You are totally right about the "upmix" and I am totally aware that this solution will create a "fake" surround but I just want to experiment :)

That's easily done in the DAW of course but I'd love to do it with Console. Could you think of a "hack" to do this in Console? Like sending a virtual channel to the rear outputs like an aux or something like that? Coming from TotalMix I'm still working out Console:)

No hack needed. As mentioned, just set it to 5.1 mode. The Center and Sub will be ignored, instant Quad!!! I have a Doors record in Quad I can listen to this way.
