SX3 / UAD Problem

Hi,

In cubase, I have a Neve 33609 on my soundcards input channel (as insert) and the same plugin on a regular channel insert. I use the \"ON / OFF\" buttons on the Cubase mixer to switch between hearing the input and output individually (I record with a little compression when coming in, but use more when mixing), so when dropping in vocals I switch between the two. Make sense?

Often enough, when switching between them, I lose the effect, i.e. it's there but it's not doing its job. To get it working, I save then re-open the project.

Is this a common / recognised problem or am I doing something wrong? Is it SX or UAD?

Cheers,
Peter

I've never been successful with using UAD plugs on the insert of the input channel. In fact, I don't think you can use them as an effect in, for recording. Strictly for mixing.
What you can do is disable direct monitoring, drop your buffer as low as it will go and add 2 tracks. 1 Dry and armed for recording&muted and the other with the effects you like, for monitoring. Save the channels preset and load it up on the recorded track. Disable/Enable all you like from there.
But UADs don't work on the input channel.

Hi,

UAD plugins definitely work as an insert on an input channel. The problem I'm experiencing is when I hit the disable switch on input then enable on recorded channel, the signal bypasses the effect somehow, as if it were actually disabled. The problem can occure vice versa. It's fairly intermittent, but I do have to restart Cubase for it to work again.

Cheers,
Peter

While it looks like you've been successful doing it that way.... I'd suggest not doing that. I don't see the point. If it was a Hardware compressor, I could see why.
In fact (and I'll try and find it) UA has come out and said that they don't recommend their plugs to be used on the input channel.

You'll have to disable the individual plugs. Not the Bypass button on the channel, nore the bypass on the 33609 or power button. You have to disable the plug intirely. You can keep it loaded, but have to hit the button to the far top left of the 33609.
