SX3 Unattended Export Macro: Anyone Using This?

Been trying very hard to use this macro...

http://www.dogsonacid.com/showthread.ph ... genumber=1

Cannot seem to get it to work. Anyone having luck with it. It seems such an ESSENTIAL idea that I simply -must- get it to work.

Also, if you can be bothered to read the thread, please not the guy '8-Bit' who -claims- that this macro is completely unnecessary and has a magical way to export all tracks (even VSTis) in one go using a 'record' button on each track. Is this guy just chain-yanking or have I been -blind- all these years?

Either way, I -need- to start rendering individual WAV files to work in other studios.

If I can't get relief, I guess I can always get a second machine and a new ADAT interface and simply playback/record to a 2nd PC. But that seems like buying another whole car just to fit one more guy in the back seat.

Any thoughts?

Hi JC,

Thanks for posting this! I don't have SX 2 or 3 so I can't test this for you. However, this is something I'd seriously consider downgrading from Nuendo for!

Hi back Eric...

Man this is driving me INSANE-O. Now I know why people use PT! It is just maddening trying to move work from my home studio to another guy's place unless one can -easily- render your project into WAV files.

What's killing me is that, the more 'pro' I get, the more I need this and the more I'm crippled. I'll literally have to devote an entire fuckin' DAY to get one 4 minute song in a form that another guy can work on. GRRRRRRR!

And what's the WORST is that you could actually do this in 5.1. DOUBLE GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!

So.... anyone have the Holy Grail Solution or am I just acting out of control as per usual?

the guy with the magic might be using the tapeit 2 plugin as an insert on each track. basically, it lets you record the output of each track in real time to a specified folder/filename.
i bought it to try (can be handy for giving clients files for remixes etc). from my testing though, it doesn't seem to handle delay compensation, so tracks with cpu intensive plugins are delayed. not good at all.
but if you insert on a track and disable other plugins its ok.
havent tried the macro yet...

TapeIt 2 works fine with PDC - it just starts and stops when you tell it to; you can just use the locators for that and it works perfectly. What problem did you have?

if i inserted a compressor plugin, the track would be delayed by the amount the plugin introduced. i used the loactors mode with preroll activated as per the instructions. will experiment during the holidays.
it's an interesting plugin, but i wouldn't trust it for a real job until i know for sure that it works. i'm using sx3..
i just glue the parts together, drag to start of song, bounce selection.
this creates a series of tracks all lining up at start of song.

thanks; will give that a try. the reason i used it was because the plugin was missing the start of a file if the music started right on the locator boundary when cpu usage was high. but will give it a go.
i suggested to the developer a master plugin bay where all the inserted instances of tapeit could be activated/deactivated at once; a real time saver! they say they will look into it.

I feel your pain! I have had to create a lot of STEMS for people and it would be f u c k i n g great to be able to do it all in a stroke. I use SX3 but I haven't tried this macro yet, although I have been aware that it may be something you could do with a macro.

If you can't get the macro going then take heart, the more STEMS you make the faster you'll get (there are tricks and techniques to speed things up).

I believe that Logic have just had this sort of functionality added, but I've not seen it in action yet.

I'm also not totally sure I could trust something like that implicitly, hit a button and walk out the room, hoping that everything was exported without a glitch or whatever. One thing that's good about creating STEMS it that it forces you to go through everything with a fine toothed come, you'll be amazed how many silly little errors you'll find in edits and tings.

Cheers,

Wow.

FWIW: I bought it yesterday (I waste more money at bars). I did a test with 16 tracks.

UN-FUCKIN'BELIEVABLE.

Worked flawlessly. Auto-numbered the tracks. Perfect.

The only annoyance is that you have to enter an instance into each track, which takes time and is user-error prone.

But it -does- seem to work.

More tests. But if it pans out (what a punner, me!) this is ----way---- better than that Unattended Macro thingee.

THANKS!

my problem is that i use a lot of plugins (i'm sure as uad users you know th symptoms!) so during the recording/export the system is under more strain with all these tapeits enabled. but i guess for exporting files it'd be better to switch off all other processing anyway to provide the raw tracks (unless the other studio wanted the processed ones of course).
thanks for tip about preroll; seems to cure the pdc problem. so i might now use this thing for real!

i'm now thinking of a way to speed up tapeit use; create new templates in cubase where each track has an instance of tapeit in the 1st insert slot, but switched off.
that way, it's easy to activate them for the export. i think this means they would send the dry, raw tracks, which is fine for most times. will experiment...
