TC G Major Effects Rack - Need feedback

Hello friends,

I am contemplating replacing my old trusty Alesis Quadraverb Plus with a TC G-Major Guitar effects rack unit. Anyone have one or used one? I saw some negative feedback at Musicians Friend, but from only one user. I need some help in making this decision.

I am running a Mesa Formula Pre into a Mesa Stereo 2:Fifty Power amp, all tube. I use effects sparingly via the effects loop and I need something very nice-sounding and durable since I put it to the test twice every weekend.

1, How is the sound quality the G-Major effects?

2. Is it simple to use and program?

3, Is there another product out there that I should be looking at instead?

4, Does anyone know if a MIDI foot controller is included or do I have to buy it separately?

I currently use a Tech 21 NYC MIDI Mouse, and I like it because it runs on a 9 volt for nearly forever. I can replace it, but not with anything that requires another power cable at my feet.

Of course I am going to ask a salesperson these questions - Eric please chime in here since I'd like to buy it from you. Still, I value all of your opinions very much and figured I had nothing to lose by asking my friends here on the forum.

Thanks in advance,

Hey Harpe I use one of theses TC's it's great It may take alittle time to dial it in due to the fact there are alot of effects parameters . You need to get a Midi pedal board I personally use the Beringer FB1010 . One of the best features of this unit is that it has relay outs this is the only unit in existence that has this . If your amp has multiple channels , EG . my marshall DSL or my Peavey XXX 3 channel amp the TC can be programmed to change the amp channels which equate to no more tap dancing , one stomp does it all . You can program volume boosts and anything else with this unit . I can't say enough about this unit . In the begining it might not seem as warm as the Alesis ( I still have the Quad also ) till you tone some of the topend of on some of the FX due to the fact the TC is Full range and the Quad was only 16 bit .
So ...

1 great and getting better with tweaking
2 about the same as Quad
3 if you need amp channel switching there is no competition . if not I would get POD XT live to use in EX channel
4 I like the Beringer 1010 It mates well and also has volume pedal but you could probably use what you got

Hope this helps

Michael,

Thanks for the advice. I picked one up today and it sounds great. I need to program it for our show but it does everything and then some. It sounds pristine and I fell in love with it only using some of the presets. A great unit and priced to sell.

Thanks again, and feast your eyes at Harpe's new rack unit!! It's going to see a lot of mileage this year.

Thanks again - here ya go!!
