Don't worry.

It's not a wintel, it's a Apple mac  so stability is one thing you don't have to worry about :D

I don't get to this assumption by browsing the Mac forum...

New tech always has new bugs, doesnt matter who makes it.

I learned a few years ago how stupid it is, you get all excited about the new capability so you run out and pay top dollar and then its a bugfest. months later its finally all sorted out and working but its onsale for half the price.

I know wait 1 full year before adopting new tech, this way:

1) its much less expensive

2) its far more reliable

3) its far more compatible

4) any problem you have can be easily searched on google etc and the answers will already be there.

i really think people jump the gun merely for bragging rights, but as the whole x2 thing has shown us, and i did warn people about jumping on x2 too soon, its often better to wait and let the others enjoy paying more for the hassles.

as far as power i just hook up another pc or 2, stilll cheaper and way more relaible.

Actually this is the strangest thing about the launch... Apple have not printed any comparisons with intel or amd systems! This is obviously because apple will be using intel chips in the future. I doubt they will be using a processor that will be slower than what they have right now.

Realistically there will not be much of difference between the intel and powerpc dual core chips but I still doubt they will outperform the dual core opteron... It's obviously the end of the road for apple/ibm and I think apple will really be kickin ass when they start using intel next year... but right now, with all the problems with panther, tiger, godzilla OS's, apple has definitely lost its "stability" tag.

Ok show me a completely built system (commercial) ready to plug and play not waiting on me to assemble it and play. :)

Old argument as well, but I hate building computers I just wanna buy it and fly it :)

Bah, not enough pci slots! ;)

I've often toyed with the idea of FX Teleporting all the systems here at the office together. The funny thing is there are probably 20 computers here yet only a few are newer than 3 years old & the average CPU is a P3 933. There's even a Celeron 300A in one system (overclocked to 450, of course ;))!

Just before I went ahead and built a Dual Xeon based on the NCCH-DL, i decided to get a G5 and call it a day. I'd built so many systems and just didn't feel like it anymore. I'd had Macs before as well as PC's and liked both for different things they offer.

My G5 is an original model and its been perfect. So I don't subscribe to the \"it must be buggy if its new\" school of thought. I also still have one of the original G4's and its still running. I NEVER had a problem. Before that I had a Powermac 8600 and it too served me for a long time with no problems. Of course their have been buggy Macs, i just wanted to point out that many of them have been complete successes.

I also remember upgrading to a 33Mhz PC and being so excited with all the power :) Those were the good old days.
It really comes down to a comfort level. If i'm in the mood I don't mind getting all the parts and doing my own PC, but lately i'm too busy to do it. I have 4 PC's here that i've put together and they're all running fine. I just got tired I guess.

This Quad G5 is really a nice unit. I'll be interested to see how it works. Hopefully there won't be any major Bugs and it will be a success. Its going to be a whole new world after that. The whole MacIntel deal is really weird :) Should be fun to compare AMD and MacIntel at that point tho :)

TRACE :)

Good work, good work.

I think you just might have found my future plan B for my PT HD setup

It's just a pitty Logic Pro does NOT support Windows
I'll take that back. With the price of those PCs I could buy 3 of them macs.

Boy, how things have changed. Who would have thought macs for a much cheaper price then a pc  .

A server? LOL! No mention of FSB speed... Oh yeah.. the latency issue... Oh yeah... the price? $ for gigaflop these new macs are really hard to beat! Nice try though!

And we all know a server is not a Personal Computer.......

It's called intended purpose. Regardless of what you do with it, intended purpose is the point.

Example. the Apple Xserve G5 is a Server. Sure you can use it for something else but it was built to be a server.

The Tyan listed in this thread was designed as a server. So it is not a Personal Computer (By Design, not useage)

But then people use things all the time for what they are not designed for.

How many people have used a Knife instead of a screwdriver. Doesnt mean a knife isnt a knife cuz you used it for a purpose other than what was intended.

This is the thing...

we're talking about cutting edge software/hardware... no limitation of price or even guaranteed stability... I'm talking about cutting edge power!

The debate of mac vs pc ended when apple announced that they will using intel chips...

If I was a mac only user I wouldn't be looking at ibm/powerpc for the future but intel/amd pc...

Servers make ggreat DAWS!

But based on the basics of english grammar and comprehension.....A Personal Computer is not a Server, or did I waste all those years in School and COllege learning English for nothing.
