Tips for adding reverb to hi-hats

The hi-hats are all coming off of drum synths and samplers. Most often these days i am using mutated recordings of a 909 that are most often going through the TC powercore EqSaturation in line to the UAD 1176SE. When I start adding reverb I am usaly doing it via sends as opposed to in line.

My problem is that I usaly find that even when using the reverbs off the UAD and Powercore cards that I have the reverb sounds somewhat seperate from the Hi-hats. The reverb just sounds to removed from the sound. I most often just end up only adding a touch of short decay to them so they dont stand out to much in the mix. I just wonder if any others have any tips for getting the reverb to sound more \"attatched\" and less synthetic.

Thanks

Hi

Thanks for the responce. I do try and keep the predelay short but I will take a look at the actual times. As for setting the delay to musical deviders, that is a good idea. I have always seen that as a fx type thing but i guess if you keep it to very short times it could work in more subtle ways in a mix.

Again thanks for the tips. I am still open to any other ideas.

Try EMT250/251, Lexicon or Quantec impulses from Noisevault. These are the ones that blend best with the dry signal. Trim them, if they need it, so the Hihats don't sound whishy-washy.

in general, plate reverbs are good for blending with the original sound to add colour, while hall/room type reverbs tend to stand apart.

Osci, do you have the Plate 140 for your UAD-1? I use it on 'Drumkit From Hell - Superior', 'DKFH- Custom & Vintage', as well as many othr sample libraries I own. I find that the Plate 140 can give you both near and far perspectives, depending on how you apply it. Try the demo if you haven't yet purchased this plug-in.

Although the Plate140 ist fantastic, it has too long reverb times for getting those small room effects.
Another proposal: try the RS-1 of the UAD just for adding a bit early reflections. This gives a space effect without the problems of the reverb tail.
