To UA: Space Echo as Tape Sim?

I'm wondering if users will be able to strap a stereo Space Echo across the Master Bus, set a delay value of zero, and enjoy the sound of virtual \"mixdown to 1/4 tape.\"

Since the Space Echo plug, is supposedly going for 250 bones, and since one card can reportedly only support two instances of the plugin, it would be nice to see it include \"tape sim\" functionality (even though the original unit wasn't designed for this).

Thoughts?

interesting idea!
however, the delay value doesn't really have to be set at zero as long as the delay only responds once. as in repeat = 1 time.

i'm sure gonna try your idea anyways!

Yeah that would be nice. Still, I'm not sure the electronic circuits of the Space Echo, or it's tape for that matter, is of a quality that would qualify as a good reel-to-reel emulation.

On the other hand, if UA has really cracked the tape-sim riddle, they could probably apply the excact same technique to modelling any analog tape machine and brand of tape. I'm hoping for emulations of a variety of Studers; 1/4 - 2-inch at 30 and 15 IPS. A 2-inch 2-track wouldn't hurt :D

i'm sure a RE201 tape-mechanism is *nowhere* near the quality of a good 15IPS studer 2"

if they can use the algo's from the RE201 as a good quality tape emu ala fatso or HEDD they will be wise to release and sell it as an individual plugin for around $300-$500

I wouldn't really want to run my mix through my space echo =; , it's not really got a clear enough signal path, and the tape is worn down relatively quickely. But it would be an interesting effect I'm sure.

Not really whats wanted as far as tape emu goes, but hoping it has brought them closer to a nice 2 inch tape machine emu. [-o<
