Hi, I wonder if is somehow possibile to use an outboard compressor while tracking say vocals without having an external preamp. How can i do that? Thank you

hi

yes, you can do that
connect the microphone to Apollo Mic Input 1 with Unison Enabled, set the channel output of this channel to a Lineout channel via UA Console, connect this lineout to the input of your compressor, connect the output of your compressor to an Apollo Line In Channel

now you can actually recorded 2 signals at the same time, the normal uncompressed vocal performances from Channel 1 and the compressed channel from the line channel

But do I have to increase the line gain or just keep it to 0 and go with the premp of channel 1? Because I don’t know why but when I increase the preamp gain the compressor seems to overdrive and distorts but the gain isn’t actually that high. Sorry for these questions but I am new to this
