Trouble with 4.60 !

I have one UAD-1 card in my music PC, running fine with UAD software version 4.50. My PC is a HP Pavillion with Pentium 4-540, 2 Go RAM, running Win XP SP2 , Sonar 6.2 PE

I have just downloaded the software update 4.60 for Windows XP ; installation went well, and after restarting the computer , when I click on UAD-1 Meter program, I always get the message : \"Unable to communicate with UAD harware. Please make sure your hardware is installed\".

I have been able to remove 4.60 and then reinstall 4.50, which recognizes again my UAD-1 card well. But after I tried to re install 4.60, I still got the same message and no card is seen by the UAD-1 meter.

Any suggestion (other than to contact UAudio PC support, which I have already done) ?

Thanks,

This happend with me too. Have a Dell Dimesion 9200 with Intel processor, 2GB RAM. Windows \"fixed\" the problem though, but when I open the Helios in Nuendo or Fl Studio nothing happens when I turn the knobs....

I just can't communicate with the card ; when I launch the UAD-1 meter, it doesn't find any card on my system, despite the card worked fine with the previous software (4.50). So there is no point of authorizing the new EQ or not.

Sounds like the driver install didn't complete after you restarted. I noticed it took a long time to run on my system; I think they may have changed the install process significantly from the previous release (could be imagining things, though).
Check \"Control Panels -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager\" and see if any of your UAD cards have the little yellow \"!\" sign next to them. If so, select \"Update Driver\" and let Windows find the new one. You'll have to do it for each card in your system.

My cards look fine when I check the Device Manager, but the UAD-1 Meter doesn't find the cards...

Edit: Neither does Cubase 4.

Re: How do you enable the Helios demo?

did you guys enable the Demo for the Helios? You have to do that in the UAD performance meter if you didn't buy the plugin.

Where in the performance meter do you enable the Helios Demo?
You do that under Authorizations.

Btw, I got my cards going by letting Windows search for the driver. Never had this happen before.

after install an restart, my system had to go through the whole found new hardware /install drivers routine for it to work. However it did it automatically on mine.
you may want to right click my computer and go to manage and devices page to see what is going on there.

I am not at my DAW right now but if I remember correctly you click on Preferences and open authorizations. Then click "Start Demo" next to the desired plugin. I think you might need to restart your host application too.

It was working fine for me at first, but now software is not communicating with hardware here either. When i first installed the software and launched performanc meter i got the 'unable to communicate with hardware message' but windows then launched a 'new found hardware' box and i reinstalled threw windows xp. I was able to use the plugins for awhile but now when i launch them they don't process. And in system information part of performance meter i see 'card 1 unavailable'. And no dsp power is used when i launch them in a project and read the meter. So i think there are a few bugs with 4.60 for some of us.

Nightowl, I checked the authorization page and the only thing listed is \"Not authorized - demo expired\". I thought maybe I was missing something or doing something wrong. I literally just installed the 4.6 software today so it definitely can't be expired...lol. I was just getting ready to buy the Neve 1081 but then seen the Helios 69, now I'm stuck because I can't hear the Helios. Thanks for the post...AL

This happens from time to time. Just get in touch with UAD Support and they'll sort you out.

Oh my God, now I feel sooo stupid  . I guess I was so exiting to try the new eq so I ran down to my studio to try it out, and forgot to enable the demo. I've bought all plugins exept the cambridge so I should have rememberd to do so.
Sorry.
I'll run down once more to check the new wonder out...

After another restart of my computer all is now working well here. I guess my drivers did'nt configure properly after the first restarts. Your explaination may be what happened to me.

Still doesn't work here. In the Device manager, with 4.60, the UAD-1 card has the Yellow \"+\" sign.

I have tried to activate using the \"update driver\" tag. If I let Windows autoamtically do this it says \"Can't find a better driver than the current one\", and does not activate the card. If I go manually, I am presented with a list of drivers, 3 times 'Universal Audio UAD-1 DSP Card (Hyperactive Audio Systems Inc.)\" and one \"Universal Audio UAD-1 DSP Card (Universal Audio)\" then I get the message \"Windows can't initialize the driver (code 37)\".

When I installed this morning, I got the same thing happen to me too.
XP detected the drivers & cards - twice - and all is well.
Maybe something in the Dell/HP is preventing the new hardware installation completing?

Still have the same trouble, I have switched slots, completely uninstalled the driver, cleaned up the windows registry, 4.60 still doesn't see my card, but reinstall 4.50 and the card is recognized again and works.

Very strange and bad for me as I wanted to use the Helios EQ

I have the very same problem. 4.6.0 won't load the driver, 4.5.0 works fine. Have also switched slots, tried every BIOS-option regarding plug-and-play and/or PCI, ripped out any hardware except HDs and grafic-card. No luck at all. But at least I can always go back to 4.5.0 - that installation works everytime.

I investigated this a bit further and one difference between the two versions is 4.6.0 can be run as a user-mode-driver. I figured from reading up some things that such a driver needs a \"Windows driver foundation\" service to install and run properly. This service should be present since SP2 and/or Windows Media Player 10/11... I indeed have that service on my system, but it won't start either - giving me an error-message like \"some device connected to your system doesn't work\". The device in question seems *not* to be the UAD-1 - since I took it out of my PC and still got the message.

So over here it might be a chain: UAD not working because the service is not working because... and now I'm stuck since I don't know what the offending device could be.

Another idea: Windows Media Player 11 installs this service as well - might be a wrong version of the service. Now if I only knew how to get rid of WMP 11 completely....

ANd a third idea: 4.6.0 is supposed to be a signed driver (at least the readme says that). But the device-manager shows it as an unsigned driver which is strange. There seems to be something fundamentally wrong with certain systems.

I've also mailed the UA-customer-service and let you know what they come up with. Any other hints much appreciated...
