UA distortion

Why not have a plug that accurately emulates the distortion of different pieces of hardware instead of changing the current plugs? I mean, the difference of analog and digital is that saturation, so then, why not obtain that saturation in the same \"techy\" and flexible spirit?

Wouldn't it be fun to have a signal with the gain of an 1176 being compressed by a fairchild?? AND have the option to not have the distortion at all???

Anywho... even if the plug has heavy cpu usage, we could freeze it and still be able to change and modify the compressor.
AND it would be much more simple when considering that people may not want to pay for a bunch of new plugs...

Any thoughts? Good idea, bad idea?

Why would any business think this is a good idea? What UA needs to do is take the technology they've already developed and roll it into a new saturation plug-in, thereby bringing to market a very sought after product yet with very little new financial outlay. It won't be meant as an alternative to their current products but rather as an addition for those of us who already own those products and want more of them, as well as a tease for those who are interested in the broader product line but aren't yet ready to make the leap.

You and I are, of course, saying the exact same thing, it's all about "strategery".

modular plugins?
Isn't that what the Liquid mix attempts to do?

No, because LiquidMix just makes \"dynamic photocopies\" - UA models circuits...

I had the same idea with the input stage some months ago, would freak out if
they would do it !!

I thought they don´t want to extract the things - but when I look the UA Maximizer,
the first flexible product of their analog knowlege; it can be used as a
decent colour box...

Who knows what precision mix series will bring??

Still waiting for the phase shift plug-in!!

...and even more for an UAD-2 to use more of them all :!:

I believe the term is \"Dynamic Convolution\" which the license from Sintefex, which models an analogue signal and blends the incoming signal which then combines it like a vocoder does with a modulator and carrier signal.

If you look at the samples page, you can certainly see it as a more mobile option that tries too emulates some quality vintage hardware.

As far as a flexible distortion generator -- this is essentially what Izotope Trash sets out to do, with a few extra modules thrown in for good measure.

I think its a useable plug. Not head-over-heels in love with it, but I can't think of anything currently available on PC that's better... Any other options out there? I believe voxengo has something similar...
