Thanks makes sense. Just hoping to get more variations of mics.
Yes, it all depends on how you plan to use them - i.e. what you will record. For you it is 'vocals, guitar cabs, and acoustic guitars'. While I would always encorage you to experiment, to try everything on everything, if only to understand how the different mics sound - the accepted wisdom is:
- The LDC will work well on vocals and acoustic guitar, and as a pairing with the dynamic mic on guitar cabs - it being more wide range will give you more high and low, with the dynamic giving you the midrange punch. Also could work well on almost anything else, depending on context.
- The Dynamic mic primarily on the Guitar cab, and percussive sounds as it handles loud transients well, or potentially as a vocal mic for certain voices - depends on context.
- The SDC's as acoutic guitar mics, or as stereo room mics. Can also work well for almost anything depending on context.
Really, for a well rounded approach, you should have a pair of each type, plus if you can afford one, a good stereo ribbon mic - but that's another story...
Back in reality-ville, maybe start with the SD1, and then potentially the SP1 pair... (although I might go for a single sdc that can do omno mode for a single channel room sound for acoustic guitar).
