I dunno but I get the feeling - with all the offers, discounnts etc - that UA are gearing up for something big in v5...

If SPL are on board I don't know what I'll do.

I think the new plugs will be in 4.9 (see UA webzine support report) along with some bug fixes.
I'm sure I read somewhere that the new $50 voucher can be spent on the new plugs (SPL for me :) ) which implies they will be out before the end of December.
On some other page of this months webzine they say ...
\"UA is preparing for a very exciting NAMM show (Booth # 7003) set for Anaheim, California, and for Musikmesse to hit Germany in March. Get your plane tickets now because you'll want to be the first one to see the new products. We’d like to tell you more, but…\"

Hope this is the big V5.0 and new uads at last, all those shelves in the UA email with graphics of plugins pasted in MUST be there to have something real stacked on them.
You don't move to a big new factory just to tease us lot !

Yeah, it says explicitly that you will be able to use your voucher on SPLTD/Precision Comp :D I have $200 to spend...

Now this I didn't see....

Good point! Charisma would be cool, too. Though not likely to happen, it'd be awesome if they'd port over their old digital pieces, Machinehead, Loudness Maximizer, and Spectralizer. The Steinberg ports aren't anywhere near the real things.

Hmm.. I can't see much great happening on the software front - the rate they have developed and added plugins this year is phenomenal, and more keep coming out the pipeline - I don't think in addition to what they've already released there's going to be a huge new plugin suite *as well*...

The big clue for me is that this year they have been giving *loads* of deals and discounts on plugs. I'm wondering if maybe they are on a last push on the UAD-1 front, want to sell as many plugs as possible for new owners to keep everyone happy, before releasing new hardware.

The more plugs you own *might* result in more upgrade fees for people migrating their plugs to new hardware - although UA certainly aren't as blatant about milking their user base as some other software companies.

Anyway, get the plugs and use them while you can, because eventually they *have* to go to new hardware - if they don't, their business will die. It's just a question of what, and when...

So.. new hardware DSP at Namm... Hmm, I'm skeptical, because every year we've been down this road and every year we don't get more powerful hardware. We'll see, I guess...

 They want us to spend a lot of money on UAD-1 plugs and then release a new UAD with a completely new architecture, thus reducing your plugin investment to nothing

Seriously, could be that there's new hardware but I couldn't care less: they just made me spend less on a hardware TD4! (even though we don't know price or plugin load yet  )

...yes but v5.0 doesn't necessarily follow immediatley after v4.9. There might be a v4.9.1, for instance.

i'm dying for a spot-on Eurorack channel strip plug...

Why modelling Behringer Eurorack?
Whats so good in it anyway?

The cryptic announcement has to mean 5.0 will be a new card that's compatible with the current plugins (being that they're on sale and new ones are still coming out). Either that or, the plugins are going native and whatever you purchase to work with your UAD1 now will work on your native processor (with the card being a possible dongle/performance booster).

The latter is the crazier of the two, but the one I'm hoping for. Any more crazy speculation? Should I not get the LA2A during the end of the year sale?

I'm waiting for the Alesis 3630 emulation... ;)
Sure, what the hell. I'd probably actually use something like that. As bad as the 3630 is, it still blows away many software compressors out there.

I dont think their gonna change anything in the cards. theres no reason to fix something that isnt broken. the cards and plugins are selling and have a great reputation in the music industry. even if im wrong and they are going to make new cards im sure the only diffrence will be that the card will work faster to fit in todays technology and for us to use more plugins with every card.
im only finding myself using more and more uad plugins and never have enough dsp power.

who said the new hardware isnt a new compressor? (did anyone said LA-4A? )

No, I don't believe so - in my view they *have* to move to a more powerful DSP platform (assuming they are sticking with DSP hardware, which probably is the case) at some point, or else their business will eventually die, no matter how great their plugins are.

That's why I use software compressors it doesn't blow away. :D :D

ROFL
That's some pretty funny shit..

On a serious note.. if they'd charge me again for the plugins I already own when they release a new much more powerfull (and hopefully not much more expensive) card, I wouldn't ever upgrade to that. Furthermore I'd sell all my UAD-1's and don't give a damn about UA anymore.. In such case my money would be better spent on bombfactory plugs. And I don't even use RTAS.
