Uad-1 and Matrox P650

Hi peeps, i just got my first uad card this week,i bought it second hand from e-bay and iv'e run into a bit of a problem,i have just built the best daw i could afford, its a dual xeon with a asus NCHH-DL mobo with a matrox P650 graphics card, 1.5 gig of geil ddr400 ram,4 wd raptors set up as 2 raid 0,with xp sp1.After putting in my soundcard(st audio c-port) and all the latest drivers i installed the uad card, this is when the problem started, my graphics card stopped responding,my second screen shut down and the resolution reduced 800x600 and to 4 BIT.The error i get is that the graphics card doesn't have enough resorces and i should shut down another device. After reading a few posts on this forum i disabled the onboard Promise controller, this didn't work.I tried older drivers for both the matrox and the uad(of the original cd) After this i decided to re-install xp nice and fresh, all latest drivers,no pci cards at all,no usb and just 1 raid, i installed the matrox no probs, then as soon as i installed the uad the grapics went again, i tried the uad in another slot same again.Hopefully someone can help as i have totally run out of ideas, i also tried sp2 aswell no better.Cheers for your time, ian j.

Some info i forgot  Hyper threading is disabled, all onboard stuff is disabled(printer ect) No internet connection or nasty software.Just had a look at the control panel under display and with the uad card in the max resolution is 800x600 and 4 bit colours instead of 32 and only 1 screen, all other options are greyed out, under advanced it says error code 12 not enough resorces to use this device. As soon as i remove the uad card windows re-installed the matrox drivers, back with 2 screens 1280x1024 res with 32bit colour,re-install the uad back to 1 screen 800x600 4bit, i tried to re-install the matrox driver but it made no differance, totally gutted, again cheers for your time, ian j.

Try other display cards like GforceFX5200 or ATI 9200 or even S3. If it works, it means that your P650 needs more power.

Hi guys, well in a attempt to see if it was psu i disconected everything that wasn't needed and as i thought that didn't work so i have borrowed a nvidia gforce 4 TI 4200 after moving things around a little everything works fine now, very strange as i now have the psu powering 4 hd's,uad card, wireless card, soundcard and daughter board+19\" breakout box,2 cdroms, midex 8,cubase dongle, usb hd,edirol pcr-50 keyboard,4 internal fans,i think i'll wait for a word from support before i e-bay the matrox card(only 5 days old) cheers for your time and the suggestion of the graphics card, ian j.

Ian,
I had the same problem with the P750 and my NCCH-DL. I talked to ASUS and Matrox and did not find any solutions. Since I had the Matrox Parhelia 128MB in another computer, I tried it and it worked. So I'm using the Parhelia with three monitors and returned my P750.

If you can live with 2 monitors, switch the P650 for an Nvidia, it should also work.

I just found this subject on the Nuendo Forum. It seems to be a problem with Bios 1004:

Hey there. What PCI slot is your UAD-1 in?

I have found that they don't seem to work properly in the 64bit slots on this board, but work fine in the 32bit slots. Can you move it to a 32 bit slot?

I ran into this same error code 12 when trying to install the host interface card for my Magma chassis. I discovered that the onboard NIC card had to be enabled. I noticed through analyzing my system with Sandra software that enabling the onboard NIC added another PCI bus for some reason and doing so resolved the error code 12 issue. I hope that you have better luck than I did with your NCCH-DL and UAD-1s. In my experience, the UAD-1's only work in 32 bit slots and the NCCH-DL only has two of them. I had all kinds of UAD-1 issues until I added a Magma PCI expansion chassis and installed all 4 of my UAD-1's in the Magma. I still have extreme latency issues unless I run my MOTU ASIO buffers at 512 and my Sonar 4 Producer I/O buffers at 128. Installing the Sonar 4.0.4 patch and the UAD-1 4.0 patch also improved the CPU load. Additionally I learned that Microsoft has a dual processor patch for WinXP if you are running SP2. Look up article 896256 on the Microsoft website. Hope this information helps...

Ian J:

How did you generate that report that gave you the \"error code 12\"?

Looks like I might need to run a similar test on my system.

Thanks!

It's been a while now but to the best of my memory, the property page of the device which in my case was the Magma PCI card reported error code 12. Look in your device manager. I also use Sandra software by SiSoftware http://www.sisoftware.net/. It's a great program for analyzing and benchmarking your system. Make sure that your onboard network adapter is enabled on the NCCH-DL. I know it doesn't make sense on a dedicated audio machine with no internet connection but for some reason doing so adds a PCI bus and the needed resources to your system. Hopefully you will find as I did in my case that you do not have to remove any of your hardware to free up resources. You can verify all of this behavior with the Sandra software. They have a shareware version for download. Good luck...

I've a NCCH-DL and 2x3.g ghz with P650 and a magma with 4 uad's as well. First do not use Bios 1004... I think 1..5 is out and works with the P650....

Second I got a code 12 but I then tried the host card on a 64 bit slot and it now works flawlessly. It has happened to other on the nuendo forum as well. My magma was also from ebay and is older 32bit version, yet it refused to work a 32bit slot... go figure.
