UAD-1 crackles and chopps!

Hi folks,
finally i bought myself a UAD-1 Flexi Pak! I was dreaming of a UAD-1 long time before and now it's mine! But then this:
The plugins (when loaded into a cubase project) crackle and chopp!! When searching along this forum i found a lot of threads dealing with compatibility problems related with the UAD-1. I didn't expect anything like that at all when buying the device! This is really disappointing... :(

Before buying a new UAD-compatible motherboard, sequencer, monitor, car, house and so on i would like to ensure that i cannot solve this crackle-problem without spending a lot of money... Maybe some of you guys has any idea to solve it?

Here is my system:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium nForce4 w/BIOS version
2GB Corsair ValueSelect Kit DDR PC400
1GB Infineon
Matrox Millenium G450 PCI
1 UAD-1
no further DSP card installed at the moment (but a powercore mkII is about to be installed!)
M-Audio Delta Audiophile 24/96 PCI
Chill Ultrasilent 520W CP-520A2

Cubase SX3.1.1 Build 944
Win XP Pro SP2

I really hope that someone can help me with this, i don't have the money to buy new hardware right now...
Thanks in advance!

Have you tried checking the AMD prossing box, under the configuration menu of the UAD-1?
Sounds like your sharring with something.
If that does litte or nothing try a different PCI slot and check for sharring.

Also, disabling Hyper-threading helped me out with pops and snaps.
Good luck.

No need for 3gbs of ram.. Pull a Gig out and stick with 2gbs when using the UAD-1,WinXP and Steiny stuff.

UA e-mail guy told me to stay away from Nforce 3 & 4 chipsets. I notice you are using an Nforce 4 board.

That could be the source of your problem.

I think the nForce chipset is the problem. Before i get mine, i emailed UA with my pc specs(especially the mobo) and told me that the PCI UAD card would not work because of the NVidia chipset. Instead they suggested that i get the PCIe card that has no problem. So i did and i have absolutely no problem at all.

Check if you can change your UAD -1 Flexi Pak with the UAD-1e Express Pak.

Hope it helps.

hello again,
thanks for your answers!
i've tried a lot of things, changed the pci devices from one slot to another, installed an older software version, deactivated the DMATurbo in the registry, and so on...i guess you're right, UAD-1 PCI has a general problem with the chipset nforce4 and/or the AMD dual core cpu...

so tomorrow i will buy myself a UAD-1 PCIe Express Pak and try to resell my UAD-1 on ebay as a Project Pak. hopefully everything will work fine then! like this i will at least take advantage of the $100-cross grading-voucher from UA.

have a nice sunday folks!

I would have to add the UAD1 PCI also has problems even when using an ATI video card. I had an Nvidia chipset and thought that was the crackling and popping problem in Sonar 64. After I switched to ATI and the noise continued I turned my sights on the UAD1. Both of the video cards were PCIe.

I disabled all the UAD plugs in my most problem project. The crackling and pops stopped. This was under Vista64 and core2 duo procs. There is something not quite right with the drivers in that environment which causes excessive cracks and pops. This was with only 3 plugs running.

I'm hoping this gets worked out in the next driver rev or I may have to stop using the board in Vista64.

I have the same motherboard and had the same problem. I called tech support and they told me that puttting a firewire card in the PCIe slot will fix this problem. And it did. I now have 4 UAD cards running on this motherboard successfully: 3 in PCI slots and one in a PCIe slot. The firewire card is in another PCIe slot. The fix really does work. But make sure you can return the firewire card to wherever you buy it in case you get one that doesn't do the trick.

Hello folks,
thanks for your answers! Since the combination of Nforce4 chipset and AMD X2 CPU is not working with UAD-1, i bought a new Mobo+CPU, namely the ASUS P5B Deluxe and the Intel Core2Duo E6600.

Now the permanent crackling and chopping is gone! :D

But i got a new problem right away!

I get a buzzing noise when activating the \"Bliptic 6\" in the LowCut of cambridge EQ.
I opened a new thread for that, see here.

This is really frustrating! How can i achieve a working system here? I have spent a lot of money for a system that was supposed to run without any problems together with the UAD's... :(
